I started as a Flight student and went through 6 instructors in less than two years, I never got a pilots license and I had a nervous breakdown. Only kids with rich daddies should attempt the flight program. You pay per hour to the instructor and pay to rent the plane. On average a flight cost about 150$ 2 years ago. That’s on a three times a week plan and I felt lucky when the weather was bad and I could save money. With each new instructor there was inconsistency in the methods and the flights. Also with each instructor I had to re-prove myself to get to the next step in the program. To be in the flight program you also must be enrolled in regular classes, I took only 12 credit hours while I was flying and worked over 30 hours a week to pay for flight. So now I have to take an extra semester after 2 back to back 18 credit hour semesters. I felt trapped by this school to finish with a degree in aviation administration and wish I had transferred to something else as soon as I quit flying. I feel like part of my soul was ripped out by this school. The teachers who teach the ground flight lessons assumed I knew things about flight prior to classes making for a poor learning environment. As a commuter student things are worse because I live about 25 miles away and have to park about ¼ mile away from classes, to walk past resident students’ cars on my way to class. I feel like I’m not part of this university; I feel like I’m just a visitor after 4 1/2 years. I really wish I had just gone to Wabaunsee and not wasted time and money on Lewis. Please, ask students their opinions about this school this will help you cut through the propaganda. The campus is pretty but it’s next to Joliet’s prison a quarry and a coal plant. Its on rout 53 and has no turn lanes with only one entrance(it does have a stoplight). Rout 53 is a 4 lane highway with a 45mph speed limit and has heavy semi traffic; the lanes are narrower than normal so they often will be in more than one lane at a time. Please dont stay with something you dont like. You might have better luck than I did but be aware of your progress and be quicker than I was to transfere out to something you like.

Take academics more seriously. High school is definitely fun and rewarding but I don't think that many of us excel at the highest level possible while in High School. I was prepared for college but I could have possibly gotten into the 1st college of my choice had I excelled the way I was capable of. Once in college it was fun and exciting as well as educationally rewarding. College helped me become a well-rounded person. It also helped me have great people skills and excel in problem solving.
