This is the most dishonest school in NorthQuite BrightPhilosophy
This is the most dishonest school in North America that I've encountered, possibly the most dishonest organization, period, including banks, law firms, lobbyists and used car lots.

I came here as a marginal high school student, told this was a very selective school with many bright A+ students and a few underachieving nonconformists. I was told I was admitted based on the strength of my writing, despite having a D- GPA in high school, and that I was in the minority in a school of scholars and intellectuals but that I would fit in fine.In fact, this school is barely a grade school. They admit anyone and everyone, and nearly three quarters of my time during the academic year were spent in meetings, seminars and assemblies devoted to telling us how to recruit students, how to portray the school, how to say things like that it's "Intentionally small" as opposed to the truth, which is that NO ONE WANTS TO COME HERE, and on and on. Classes are ridiculous, most of my classmates are clearly unprepared for any kind of academic work, and the entire mess is depressing and expensive. I feel fooled, stupid, and lied to.

Shimer isn't for everybody.Quite BrightEnglish
Shimer isn't for everybody...but then again, they don't try to be. No football team, no cheerleaders, no lectures, no memorization, no multiple choice tests, no textbooks, and not many students. But if you want an education that challenges you as you have never been before-and probably never will again--this is the place. And there are no misfits here; or perhaps more accurately, most of us would be misfits at schools with 35,000 students, where athletes are worshipped. Where else do you have dinner, and occasionally class, at your professor's house?

Shimer, for me at least, is the onlyBrightSociology
Shimer, for me at least, is the only place I could imagine going to. It's the only place that has fostered my development as a human being, as a scholar, as a brother, a son, and a friend. There is no place quite like Shimer and I love it, even with its flaws. It's not a school for the faint of heart, that is- those who want to fly through college and get their degree to go on and get that $150K/year job will not do well here. You can still graduate from Shimer and get a great job, but you cannot breeze through Shimer's intense curriculum. If you want to learn, develop your critical thinking skills, engage in dialogues for EVERY class, feel like your thoughts and views matter, and you're willing to put the effort it takes into keeping that atmosphere alive; Shimer is the place for you.
