| Quite Bright | The people and environment are great. The college of business has been so good to me and the finance specialization is very well recommended. | Education Quality: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: B+ | | | |

| Bright | During my career, my collegues have come from many univeristies inlcuding Harvard, Rutgers, Cornell, Stanford, Cal-Berkeley, Wisconsin, Oregon State and many others. My education from Southern Illinois has allowed me to more than hold my own with the graduates from these and every other school that my co-workers have come from. In fact, based on the individuals that I have worked with, Harvard and Stanford are over-rated (Cal and Cornell certainly deserve their reputations). SIU worked out vey well for me. Remember, you can find distractions if you want to because at a large university like SIU there is always something going on, but you can also choose to only study. Do some of both, but mostly study. | Starting Job: Ecologist, Preparedness: B+, Reputation: B | | |

I went here for a semester and did not return. It was a nightmare. Whatever you do, DON'T LIVE IN UHALL. That is the worst dorm. The only thing great about UHall is the food. The students here are some of the nastiest people you will ever encounter in your life. But I guess that's all a part of the experience. Now don't get me wrong, the NATIVES of Carbondale are some of the NICEST people you will ever meet, they would run into a burning house for you, but not the students. The students come from all over and they really are nasty. All I have to say is spend some time visiting this school before coming here. It's cold. And the campus is pure filth, until you get to the Thompson Point area. It's a little bit nicer over there and the people are a little bit friendlier. The quality of education I would say is good, they have a great architecture program, but the work is hard and very time consuming. The teachers are nice, they have office hours, but since there are so many students, when you come to their office hours, they are helping another student the entire time and you never get to see them. It is easy to get a work study job out here. They have a lot of extracurricular activities to get into as well. Anyways, just make sure you visit and see this school for yourself. Also, it's only a party school if you make it. While I was down there, I didn't attend not one party. Also, if you're a minority, the people in this school can be a little biased or prejudiced, even some of the teachers. Here, whites stick with whites, blacks with blacks, asians with asians, and etc. No one merges, which is why the school sucks so much. But if you went to a white highschool or something, you might not notice. Don't come here, it's a great academic school, but a horrible social school. I hated it. Great teachers though... | Education Quality: A+, Campus Aesthetics: F

The department chairs are so arrogant, it is unbelievable. They do not treat the students like a customer. It is as if they have their head stuck in a time when there wasn't that much competition for students. And they act like they are doing you a favor for letting you come and spend your money there. There is a lot of gender discrimination against men there. And there are a lot of lesbians in key positions on campus to ensure that happens. If you are male, and you are a taxpayer, you take the bus home, otherwise take your chances walking. If you are a female and a taxpayer, you get a nice safe ride home in a private vehicle. Why are females valued more highly than males? There is also discrimination against heterosexuals. They have a drag show celebrating homosexuality, cross-dressing, and lesbian perversion, but they have no events promoting heterosexual behavior. In fact, normal healthy dating is quite difficult because if the lesbians are not trying to block you, the fat, frumpy, married people are because they are bored with their own sex lives so they don't want anybody else getting any.
Obesity is epidemic here despite the great rec center. So, if you are looking for a decent looking lover there you will have to sift through the hogs. And then even if you find one, get ready for a lot of competition, and blocking from lesbians, conservative Christians, and bored, jealous married people. I suppose that there i
This campus is totally racist and the whites stay with the whites, black the blacks, and Asians with Asians. And there is plenty of staring and watching if you do anything to the contrary.
I noticed there is lot of eavesdropping and staring there compared to the civilized world. In the civilized world, people respect that you have your own life and space. You don't get high ideals like empathy and respect for privacy.
And bigotry, OMG, if these people find out one piece of information about a person, they fill in the rest with their stereotypes and put a label on them. If you have a friend of the opposite sex, they will call you lovers. If you visited San Fran on vacation you are gay. I am not kidding. That is how bigoted and gossipy those trashy people were.
And they were so nosy too. A conversation with a person in Carbondale is something like an interrogation. They have no shame about asking your personal information. Where I am from it is considered to be ill-mannered and even shocking to ask overly personal questions.
You cannot throw a rock in any direction without hitting neo-con Christian, and, like any cult, they are constantly recruiting using sneaky unethical tactics. And if you are a fellow conservative Christian, you are in, if not, you are out.
OMG and the police harass people an do illegal things too but they are not accountable to anyone so it continues. And if they don't have a case, they will create one.
The university does whatever it wants to whomever it wants and since the whole corrupt mess are in bed together, it remains corrupt.
The university has a illegal student conduct code which deprives students to their constitutional rights. And, they get sued all the time.
All that is wrong about SIUC
1)Lezbos
2)They don't treat the student as a customer.
3)Arrogant department heads.
4)Gender discrimination against males.
5)Discrimination against heterosexuals,
6) Conservative Christians, backstabbing, lying hypocrites.(sometimes one in the same with the lesbians, if you can believe that)
7) No decent places to eat with anything other than a Mcdonalds atmosphere.
8) Fat hogs who are wasting oxygen.
9) Nosy, and gossipy, and narrow-minded people are the norm.
10) No jobs so it is difficult to tell the university to go to hell.
11) Illegal student conduct code which deprives all those who unwittingly sign up for classes of their constitution right to due process.
12) Police corruption, illegal searches, surveillance, and other criminal activity. If they don't have a case, they fabricate one to suit their purposes
13) Departmental policies which force you to stay at SIUC in order to graduate, thus making you a prisoner.
14) Wal-mart society, no classy places.
15) No events, like big name concerts, anymore.
16) Cameras everywhere! Did it make me feel safe? No. It made me feel watched by a control freak government no less authoritarian than Cold War era USSR. It is not an exaggeration. 17) Same Christians who go to church and raise their hands in the air are the same ones who will knife you in the back at work, using any unethical means at their disposal. | Preparedness: -, Reputation: -
