This University is still trying to piggyback upon it's out-of-date past reputation as a party school to try and recruit as many students as possible to enroll here. The party scene here is just very average and typical of a standard college town, nothing "legendary" or "special" about it. College students hang out at bars, have a few celebratory traditions throughout the year, and a few house parties. So what?? Is that supposed to be making headlines or something? Academics are at the BOTTOM of the priority list when it comes to resources, competent instructors, and legitimate grading systems (basically show up to class and you graduate, simple as that, trust me.) So there is no possible way to tell who legitimately earned their degree as opposed to who was "handed" a diploma. Instructors are so afraid to fail students that they will pass literally ANYBODY who shows up for class, even if they never learned a single thing all semester! A diploma from SIU means nothing except that you paid a bunch of money, wasted a bunch of time, and still remained as ignorant and clueless as you did before ever going in to higher education.

I had grown up very close to SIUC as a kid and had been by the campus many times as a little kid. I remember seeing all the "big kids" drinking coffee at cafes, reading books and scurrying from class to class. I remember how awesome the school lokked. Pristine, and in good shape. After a few years in the Army, what I came back to was not what I remembered.

SIUC is a shadow of its former self. Many of the classrooms are in a major need of renovation. Alot of seats and desks are broken, and the enviroment is less than inviting. Classes arent too far aprt, but even if you do have a walk between classes, dont expect to see much more than sidewalks and buildings. This college isnt very into looking clean and organized. On the other hand, most classes and buildings are fairly close together, and doms are pretty close, so no need to worry about showing up late if you sleep in.

Administration is top notch. If you have a problem, or need some paper work, these people will go that extra mile to help you. Honestly these people should work for a major coporation for as much work as they do.

The town is fairly small. Lots of small restaraunts and bars to hit up, plus a mall and othe things youd expect in a college town. If you dont drink, expect to be a little bored, as thats all thats really offerd. Now to my main point, the teachers.

What you dont want to enroll in SIU is their Interior design program. Its run by a old Hippy named Jon Davey. For the past 20+ years this man stab so many people in the back to reach his current level in the interior design program. years ago he forced out his trusted friend that he used with while in the architure 2 year problem. Jon Davey didnt have the skills to be a instucture because of this lack of back ground. So he went on the path to discredit people to reach the top. He passed student not on their abilty but their skin color and county they came from. The more non white students he had the better (He)looked to the Board of regents. Jon Davey is nothing more then man that got out of the service with little skills in social and education understanding. To reach professional status without the correct or proper teaching skills he did what it took to reach current level. This man isnt to be trusted, nor his teaching skills that good to learn from.I was in classes how this man ever got to this level and what he did to get there is what SIU is all about. Cheap Univeristy with a party type social life. Dont was your time in this Interior design program in SIU. Because at the end you be laughed at by future people that might hire you. I am so sorry i attented SIU at carbondale Interior Design program. a wasted 4 years. But the name Jon Davey is still do his hyper BS on how design shouldnt be learned.Jon Davey claims he a follower of god, but what people dont know about this guys is.......He as Two faced as anyone can be. Years ago SIUC was on the edge of losing its creditablity with ASID, what did Jon Davey Do? He gave the people that monitor the schools for creditable the biggest BS show ever possible. Now you tell me....How can a man of god as Jon Davey says he is do this big of a snow job to the people that monitor the respectable of future designers of the world? If Your start unlike myself, dont believe things the LIES THE PROGRAM GIVES YOU WHEN YOU ARRIVE. But instead go in without warning look around and you see for yourself how low this program is and the staff REALLY IS.......
