| Quite Bright | I wasted a lot of time and money at this school. I was interested in the textiles department, and was excited to find a school closeby that offered the program. Many of the classes are led by graduate students, not real teachers who are too busy working on their graduate projects to even give you one on one attention (which is needed in any art class). In my fabric class I was eager to learn new techniques but instead learned how to "tie-dye". I could have taught that myself. The school is more focused on general studies, of the five classes I was taking only 2 were related to art. After struggling to keep up with the other non-art related classes I barely had time to focus on my art, which was the reason I was in school there. When I needed assistance with anything (lockers, signing up for classes, parking etc.) the faculty was of no help, and didn't seem to care. By the way, who's great idea was it to put the art building the farthest away from the parking lot? Lugging all of my massive supplies (without a locker since there are only 1/4 the amount offered than of students that are there) was a pain as well. Overall it was a waste of time and money. Huge dissapointment, my community college classes blew SIUE away. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you are interested in art! | Campus Maintenance: A-, Education Quality: F | | | |

| Quite Bright | This school is quickly becoming more popular but I advise those who probably live close to choose another school at any cost. This is basically a country commuter school that acts like any other high school in terms of behavior. On the weekends the campus is DEAD because everyone either stays or drives home. The majority of the female student body is obsessed with getting married. The greek system sucks but there is one good sorority on campus that deals with unicorns i think. | Campus Aesthetics: A-, Social Life: F | | | |

I had an absolutely horrible experience as a graphic design major at this university. Half of the professors and grad students are helpfull, friendly and approacheable. The other half are the exact opposite -- condescending, narrow minded and too busy for the likes of YOU. Interdepartmental politicking caused a lot of faculty reshuffling and ultimately ended the design program. High-level staff and other students told the design majors that they didn't belong in the BFA program and to go away. I stuck in it anyway but then with the staff shuffling I was unable to find someone to work with me on my thesis. Instead of waiting a year fo rthem to get their affairs in order, I chose to graduate. Good riddance. This school didn't help me to further my knowledge, expand my horizons, etc. I did a lot of self directed study. I mean, a LOT. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Innovation: D | | | |

| Bright | As an graphics major... I absolutely hated SIUE. The staff at the school treats you 'like a number'. If you want anything done, you simpily have to do it yourself. And make sure to get a second opinion too, because you'll hear SO many different stories if you ask a simple question. As a freshman I found this extremely inconvienent. My husband attends SIUE - majoring in accounting. He is pleased with the business program as a whole, but agrees with me completely when it comes to the staff. Oh and one more thing, if you hate walking everywhere- especially in the winter... this school is not for you. The campus is very pretty and as a result of this they make the parking lots far away from EVERY building. A very big problem in the winter time and on rainy days. Just know one thing - this IS a STATE RUN institution... and you can tell. They are not out for YOU as the student... so if you want an all around great college experience... you may want to look somewhere else. Needless to say I am not attending this school anymore - their graphics program is horrible and the teacher (one teacher mind you) is narrow-minded. Not a good experience here at all.
