Quite Bright
Although many complain about the engineering department and the university as a whole, I found that UIC created an environment that encouraged students to be self-reliant and to develop relationships with their professors. Granted there are a handful that are extremely condescending and don't enjoy "wasting their time" with undergraduates, but most, however, are more than willing to spend time chatting with students (I spent a couple hours once talking to a professor about graduate programs).

Super Brilliant
UIC puts up a positive outer shell but often really focuses more on attracting new students than on taking care of the students they have. For example, despite budget cuts, they have been spending oodles of money on beautifying the school but don't have enough money for supplies and repairs that the students really need.

Bright
Work very very hard to get into the best possible school possible, THEN work even harder to succeed and graduate.I did one out of the above two then, transferred and graduated from a lesser known school (UIC). I worked hard and received my MBA from a top 50 program. Lesson is do it right the first time. I hate having to talk about my split college career (undergrad)
