UIC is a good school that is vastly improving. However there are some setbacks. It is a commuter school, so do not expect the big social college experience. You can get that experience if you live on or near campus, and join clubs or sports. Another setback is the schools architecture is rather depressing. There are efforts to improve it, but some classrooms are horrid, and can be depressing. Bascially that is the negative. There are positive things bout the school as well. The school is improving academically, and also the social life and campus atmosphere is greatly improving. Take a look at South Campus and one will get an idea of what type of place UIC will be in the next five years.

Super Brilliant
The school is not like Urbana or some other farm school. It is as fun as you make it. It definitely gets better the older you get as you have the entire city to go out and explore, as opposed to a few bars. The school of business is a very good school and helpful with you career development as well.

Attending UIC was a mistake. I lived with relatives in the suburbs of Chicago and commuted daily to the school. It was at the time a commuter school with no dorms at all. The daily commute was a grind and there was little to no opportunity to make friends on campus. The campus, while located in a vibrant city, is a depressing concrete jungle. You do get to experience a diverse student body and to that extent there are some positives. Overall, I'd say if you want a real college experience with an active student life and the opportunity to make friends and enjoy college, then stay away from UIC.
