I believe UIS is more concerned with the internal societal and political entity of ass kissing and patting each other on the back than it is providing students with a quality education. Furthermore I have on more than one occasion, from more than one department, been forced to endure a hostile environment created by professors who are condescending and dismissive of ideas which do not fit into their personal fundamentalist dogma. They allow other students to make rude sighs, noises or even have called me names for daring to think outside of the curriculum the professors cling to much in the same way a religious person might cling to the bible.

I received my undergrad degree from Sangamon State... and then the university changed its name to UIS. My Grad degree is from UIS. I loved the CFC program. Mr. Townsend is a teacher I will always remember and respect. Dr. C. Moy is another teacher who helped to mold my mind... If they have retired... the students today will miss out on true masters of the trade. I can't say enough for the teachers.... On the other hand, I went through two pregnancies while at UIS and had to walk the one mile each way to the building my classes were at. At night, walking the mile back to the car, I really didn't feel safe. These are my biggest complaints - walking too far to class and safety. If you see big Mike T. around UIS tell him hi from a 89 and 96 grad.

If you are planning on going into the business department and have trouble understanding accents you may want to consider going someplace else. Otherwise the business department seems quite good and provides a well balanced set of core classes.
