| Bright | DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL, especially if you're going into the art department, and definitely if you plan on doing Animation. The school is financially insecure, the classes are over booked, and you'd be lucky to get out in under 4 years. The head of the Art department, Barbara Giorgio, plays favorites. Which is good if she likes you, but if you'd don't agree with her, be in school wise or just agreeing with the media she enjoys, you'll have semester to look forward to of getting kicked out of the classes you need, backed with with bullsh*t excuses. I had to change my major because she refused to let me take my classes, but gladly handed them out to other students. And still, she makes random excuses about why I cannot take classes that are on the suggested plan of study that she claims to follow to a tee. I plan on transferring at the end of the semester. | Quite Bright | This is a great size school for someone going to college without a bunch of people from high school -- it's small enough that you get individual attention but big enough that there's plenty to get involved with and plenty of people to meet. I'm a shy person but had no problem making friends in the dorms and through Greek life. I agree with those who say it's much more fun after you're 21, but the university tries to provide fun things (free movies, Late Nite every Saturday, etc.) to keep those under 21 on campus during the weekends. Some of the buildings need work, but Ball State's put a lot of money into making the campus nicer in the past few weeks. | University Resource Use: A+, Surrounding City: C- | | | |

| Bright | I started out at Ball State and was disappointed, so I transferred after my first semester. First off, Muncie is a complete dump. They don't show that in all the pretty university viewbooks. It is totally backwater and redneck. Second off, a lot of people come and go here, they score easy grades their first year and then transfer to Purdue or IU. The design program here is good, but it doesn't have the name recognition or prestige of Purdue or IU. I visited both of them, plus the Art Institute of Indianapolis, and chose Purdue because its really well funded and the facilities are top notch. BSU is a good starter school, if you go home every weekend, but don't stay longer than a year cause your credits may not all transfer. | Campus Maintenance: A-, Surrounding City: F | | | |

Ball State is a GREAT school. However, you have to give it a chance. As a freshman many students come in thinking they will automatically make friends, and be welcomed with open arms by the faculty...but it's not that way at all. You have to work at having both an academic and social life. Afterall, this is college, not high school.
Get involved on campus and within your department. BSU Faculty is ALWAYS very open to helping their students...well except for those few 'angry at life' professors...but every school has a few of those. Some of the classes, and coursework is a joke, but once you get deep into your major you will hopefully find it as challenging and fulfilling as I did. (I was a psychology major) As far as a social life...well Muncie doesn't have much a "social scene" in fact-most of the time you have to make your own fun. On the other hand, BSU has one million opportunities to meet people, so don't just sit in your dorm room!! My experience was amazing at Ball State and I wouldn't take back a minute of it. The coursework prepared me for graduate school and I felt like every penny of the mighty expensive tutition was well worth it! | Preparedness: B, Reputation: B+ | | |
