Baker was a great starter school. It is definitely not the kind of school you want to go to for four years. The professors are really great and most of them have very impressive CVs, but the lack of enthusiasm among the student body really starts to wear on you after a while, and even the professors get discouraged. If you take the time to talk to your professors, though, they will give you a lot of guidance and be very, very honest. Most of them are distinguished profs who chose Baker because of its freedom.

The student body is homogenous--everyone's from rural Kansas, with a few people from California--but everyone is very nice. I made a lot of friends, but the small size of the student body was boring after a while. Baldwin is a really small town, and I love how safe it is and its quaint "downtown," but boredom was prevalent. Lawrence is awesome though, and definitely worth the drive.

The administration is wonderful, too. Everyone knows your name and will wave fees. There are no parking stickers and they will call you if your car is illegally parked because they don't want to tow it. Baker was great for one year, but don't waste your time all four years.

if you aren't for joining a sorority or fraternity or don't want to go home every single weekend, do not go to baker. the parking lot becomes very bare on the weekend. if you aren't the sorority type and don't play a sport, do not go to baker. Also, if you enjoy working out do not go to baker. there is currently 2 working treadmills that the university purchased in the 80s or earlier. Everyone fights for getting on the "good" machines everyday. There is currently a mold problem in the freshmen girls' hall that has caused many girls to move rooms and the mold can be found in every room. I am getting out of here at the end of the year for sure.

I went to Baker and would recommend that you if you have to go to a small school this is just an "OK" school. I will tell you that they consistantly do not do what they say they will do and several of my friends who graduated also agree. I was told things that were untrue. I was harrassed by a professor that should have been fired long ago. I didn't like it. It's a pretty campus, but that's really about it. My parents were insistant that I stay all four years at ONE school. UGH! Oh, when I did have problems in a class there was NOONE in the student assistance department that could help. Yeah, made me feel great. Again, go somewhere else would be my advice.

I came in with a different major. Now that I'm here and interested in a career in Graphic Design, I would have chosen a different school. Baker's been really good (or the professor's have) about fitting things to my schedule or what I'm wanting to get out of an education. It's just that, with a hindsight of what I might have wanted, I would have at least looked into some different schools, though I might have still come to Baker after meeting with the art professors. The education department, which is my other major, is exceptional. They teach a lot and guarantee real-life experience.
