1) How has Newman helped/hurt: I received a very good education at Newman, which has served me well over the years, both in graduate school and in private industry. The student/faculty ratio being what is was allowed me to have a lot of direct interaction with the professors, and I think this has helped me relate more easily to supervisors and business managers on the professional level.
2) Should have known/done: Should have developed much better proficiency in foreign languages (spanish, portugese, french, italian, etc.). No doubt this would have opened doors to even more job opportunities, and would have been extremely satisfying personally. Should have taken courses in statistics, business law and more (as much as I could stomach)IT-related coursework. 3) Recommendation to HS students: Learn (I mean, REALLY LEARN) a foreign language. Do whatever you have to do to accomplish this. Also, learn to communicate clearly, concisely and correctly in English. Irrespective of your field of expertise you will have to tell others (supervisors, colleagues, business managers, lawyers, etc.) about it in formal reports and in oral presentations. | Starting Job: Research Chemist, Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | |
