Don't be decieved by the beautiful campus and highly regarded sports teams. Coming into college I anticipated a freindly and opportunistic enviornment. However upon arrival I realized that all realms of social and extracurriculer activities are dominated by greek life. I couldn't get involved with student senate because I wasn't involved in Greek life. The social scene is incohesive and down right clicky. House parties are rare, campus is in the middle of nowhere, and the bar scene is partioned and run by frats and sororitys. As far as classes the ease of admission into the University attracts an underachieving demographic. Classes are uncompetitive, unfufilling, and intellectually insufficient. Often a student is stuffed into classes with more then 1000 students in them. It's almost impossible to focus on lecture with students texting, talking, and browsing the internet simaltenously throughout the lecture. The bottom line is if you're looking for an atmosphere to blossom intellectually and to earn a degree that stands out, Kansas is not the school for you.

I went to KU in the old days when that is what most Johnson County students did. I wish I would have looked at the alternatives. I rarely had professors teaching classes and the interaction was minimal. Very fun school. My advise is to really ask hard questions about what to expect in terms of instruction.

KU is different that what you perceive it to be before attending. Sure some of the athletic events can be fun, but the campus is spread out and people are either too busy on their cell phones to talk to you or don't look your way. I feel I am getting an adequate education for the money, but could have done my pre-med education at any other school in the state. As for the town, it is very ecentric and weird. The night clubs are very distant and people have their own clicks. I must admit that the other school to the West has a much more inviting social scene and friendly campus.

I wish I had taken better advantage of the resources available to be at KU. I tried to do everything on my own instead of relying on my advisor and fellow graduate students. KU's Social Psychology Program was a perfect fit to my goals and ambitions. Rock Chalk!
