Not so bright
Coming for Chicago i thought that murray was the best school in the world. In less than 2 weeks in the school year i hated the town. There is nothing to do. If you are not a frat you have no night life. The school is nice, but the town is in the middle of no where. Do not attend murray if you live the big city like i do. If you like the small town small minded south than murray is the place for you.

Quite Bright
The helpfulness level falls into frustration most of the time. The administration building, Sparks Hall, will give you the run around no matter what you are trying to accomplish. I have never had a positive experience dealing with the people in that building and trust me when I say I have been in there MANY times only to be bent over backwards before accomplishing anything.
The campus is pretty, but don't pick this school because it is pretty. Yes, it does make one feel better seeing flowers everywhere. But one should not base their selection of a college education on how pretty a campus looks.
The nightlife and party scene is undoubtably among the least attractive in the nation. Imagine a 20 minute drive to purchase beer or a 40 minute drive to the nearest liquor store. Imagine. There are a handful of 'restaraunts' in town that serve alcohol, but according to city laws have closed in patios with walls surrounding them and are unable to serve any beverages after midnight. Yes, all of the places to buy a drink in town close at midnight.
The layout of the campus is good and bad. You can walk everywhere on campus, a good thing. If you live off campus, you have to hike some to get to campus.
If I had the chance to go back and choose another college, knowing what I do about this one, I would choose anywhere else in a heartbeat. One of the main reasons exclusively is the curriculum and roadblocks of my major. MSU offers small class sizes which were inadequate to hold the students trying to get into class. For my major, at least, I have had to wait for 3 or 4 classes that are only offered half of the year and the other half of the year I could not fit into the small class size. Most upper level classes that are full only offer 1 section of class. If I were attending a larger school, which offered many more opportunities to take classes, I would not be stuck spending an extra year at this school.
MSU is a comparatively cheap school. My opinion, you get what you pay for: a close minded, conservative, middle of nowhere, expect delays, unhelpful, frustrating, clean, pretty, and quiet town education.
If you choose to come here, befriend an upperclassman in your major and consult your advisor immediately so that you can graduate ASAP. And don't let Sparks Hall give you any bullshit, ever.

It was my mistake in coming here in the first place, but to save others like me the trouble I will write you this. I'm from northern Illinois, and went down here because I've heard nothing but good things about it. The minute I arrived one of the conselors hit on my gf right in front of me, and was into partying it up with the students. The faculty was decent though, loved talking of kentucky way too much. If you're not from Murray or KY, I suggest not attending this college. The students wear nothing but cammo, and are very closeminded. Other students from the Chicago area choose to be the only one, so don't think you'll make many friends from home. You're only options are to join a frat, which like to give you terrible exams and yell at you for failing, or intramurals. There were some nice people, but not enough. It's a nice school if you like being in the middle of nowhere, and hearing nothing but "St. Louis and Louisville are the greatest cities in the world@!" Some of these people I must say have never seen a large city. Murray is a horribly small town? I guess you can call it a town, but its just a about 1,000 or less people. The weather is awful, humid all year round. Sometimes it's cold, but then the heat will go up for no apparent reason. The bugs are disgusting, and are everywhere. People smell often, and look like they havent showered in weeks. Nobody stays on the weekend, and the sports aren't worth watching. Don't go to this school thinking you'll be in girl paradise, most have boyfriends, or will end up fat by the end of their 4 years here. If you like the small town feel of a kentucky town, then murray is the perfect fit for you. If you like to be in a big city, and have a great night life, then don't go here.

Small town, friendly neighbor, safe environment.
If you are looking for a good place to study, look no further. The living cost is quite low. Communication access (Internet, Mobile Phone, etc) are good if not great.
But if you need your nightlife daily, then find a bigger city for you. Murray is for those who want to learn. Period.
