Before I attened NKU I attened Morehead State University. I never had any problems what so ever from MSU. As soon as I transfered to NKU I encountered nothing but problems, from the transfer itself all the way to financial aid and bill pay. Not only in my opinion but in many that I talk to NKU is nothing but money hungry. They are cut throat and will do absolutely anything to get their money. When I attened MSU they were willing to work with you as much as possible not NKU.

I am currently not atteneding NKU due to back tuition. I have attempted numerous times to work with them on this which they have refused. They want all the back pay at once. Working a part time job that is just not possible for me, even though I am trying my absolute best and have been steadily saving money to pay this off. I emailed the bursar office and the person I ended up speaking with was nothing but rude and treated me like I was less of a person. I shouldn't have expected ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM THE BURSAR. All of the employees of the burars office are rude, mean and arrogant. They treat you like a piece of crap.

My brother is currently atteneding and he has had the same troubles I have, including difficulties with the financial aid department. The financial aid department is very difficult to work with as well. You fill out all the paper work you are supposed to, then they come back after and say you have to do something else. More then 50% of the time its a stock form. They believe that you are hiding money from them in some way or another. They have you go through a mound of paperwork because they firmly believe that you are trying to scam them out of money.

So if you are a person without means I would advise not atteneding this university. If you are not rich you will be treated as a lower class of person. Universities like this one make it very hard for people like me to obtain an education, I want to attened college and get a better job. NKU makes that impossible. On a good note. The faculty that I have worked with are AMAZING. Some may have other opinions but for the ones I have personally had a professors have been nothing but exceptional. They have worked with me and helped me with content I didn't fully understand. Its a shame the the internal workings of NKU are so horrible because they really do have an awesome amount of very good and helpful professors.

BEWARE
NKU is a bait and switch university. They will constantly switch requirements so you have to spend more and more and more money. Or the "advisors" will give you bad advice, and guess who pays with lost time and money? YOU WILL!

The financial aid office is HORRIBLE. They will try to deny you for any reason. I eventually filed a complaint about them to the KY Attorney General. AWFUL, UNHELPFUL.

The university tries every possible trick to take as much money as possible, and let's face it... a degree from NKU is a joke. Be careful! I enrolled in a class that didn't begin until March. I withdrew after ONE CLASS but they would only refund 50%... complete RIPOFF.

Parking is a nightmare. $6 for every 3 hours and the pay lots are FAR from most of the buildings. THEN you have to worry about your car getting broken into (that happens a lot) because there isn't any security in the garages and, well - you know - they're not responsible. All the convenient lots are faculty / staff only, but most of the time they are not even half-full. And don't dare park there b/c parking enforcement is brutal.

The worst is the bait and switch. They will rename courses, create new requirements, and basically do anything possible to squeeze more money from students.

They'll have you taking courses, and by the time you're ready to graduate they'll say "oh that doesn't count anymore... now you have to take THIS class." SUCH BULLSHT

And they continue to raise tuition to pay for facilities, sports, etc. that 99% of students will never use.

The financial department can't keep track of the money you pay them. One semester I had received an email stating that I owed them $400 when just two days before I had received a check from them for $40, because I over-paid. On top of this they will send you to four different locations and you will end up speaking with the same person you did in the beginning. On top of this they have changed what one of my classes that I took as a freshman into a higher level course but will not count it as a higher level course even though the information that they are to teach is exactly the same. Also just recently I had lost my wallet and it had been turned into the lost and found. When I received my wallet back it was missing $50. They didn't even bother to get the contact information from the person dropping it off or to inventory what was in the wallet. When I contacted them about this I was met with arguments and completely rude and unnecessary comments. They were hostile and unhelpful. Keep in mind I am a criminal justice major and just because there is a policy stating that they are not responsible for theft or loss they do have a responsibility to protect their students from unnecessary issues. For all I know the person that they hired was the one that took the money. Also there has been a large amount of car break ins on the campus. They did finally catch the person, but they do not replace or fix burnt out lights in the parking lot. In addition to this the traffic to park on campus is ridiculous. During rush hours they are supposed to (and have in the past but no longer do) have campus security to direct traffic. I can arrive on campus 20 minutes early for class and will barely make it in time for class and thats if I run and even then thats not always the case. They are very close to Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport so if you are old enough to drink there is a decent amount to do but this declines greatly for those under 21, unless you enjoy sports because we are very close to the Bengals, Reds, and Cyclones stadium. Additionally frequently will the elevators in some of the older buildings will get stuck. One of the oldest buildings on campus has such faulty fire alarms that they go off 4-5 times a semester, which causing issues for the local fire departments because they are have to answer that call but then may be put even farther out of the way from an actual emergency. The food on campus is also quite expensive for what it is. They charge about $3 for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich when you can get that at Kroger for $.99. That's three times the normal price. Also I have ADHD and have been diagnosed three different time by three different doctors and they still wanted me to go to another facility to be diagnosed again. Also half of their webpage does not work with or barely works with Mac and about 50% of college students use Mac. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TOO! I have found this college to be so greedy and irresponsible beyond disbelief.
