 | | I graduated the PN program from Bowling Green Technical College in Glasgow Ky in 2001,working Med-surg for seven years at a local hospital i felt like it was time to go back to school and continue my education. I to was swept away by the idea that i could become an RN in just one year. this was all my pre-req classes and the complete nursing program togethor. I felt well prepared for the challenges ahead, with the background of such a great school BGTC. Spencerian is a joke the ADN program is so unorganized in my first semester there were reimburisments made as well as acceptions, test were manipulated by the DON and other teachers to accomidate students, The sylabus given were not followed in any way, the teachers spoke to students as we were small children, yes pointing thier fingers in faces, this was uncalled for not to mention you are paying for an education you are not recieving, clinicals most often did'nt occur, canceled related to incompatent staff, Some teachers gave answers to thier test to accomidate the lack of information given to students. Save yourself do NOT attend this school. This has been the worst expierience of my entire life. Not to mention it has cost me dearly 25000.00 ADN program. | Preparedness: -, Reputation: - | | | |

| | Quite Bright | I would not recommend spencerian to anyone. If you are considering going there run as fast as you can. I met with an admission officer (Paula) and explained to her I am interested in the MLT program as a starting point and was planning on continuing my education to become a pathologist my question was very clear and repeated several time "will my credits and/or my degree transfer to other schools?" Her answer of course was yes. Half way into my program I learned from other students that credits and/or degree will NOT transfer to most colleges!! If I wanted to get my BS, MS, or PhD I would have to start all over again. I was also advised by Paula to get in the MLT certificate program and then bridge over to the associate in MLT program and insisted that it would same thing. She neglected to state the fact that I would have to take 4 or so classes and do 2 quarters of clinicals that will not count toward my associate. The teachers there are very full of themselves and treat you like crap and make you feel like they are better than you but, they are knowledgeable of the material they teach with the exception of Ms Franke(the department co director's cosine) she reads the power point slides word for word with 90% of what she reads is mispronounced. She is also the rudest person I have EVER met in my life. Ms Staton and Mrs Feldkamp were very knowledgeable teachers but extremely moody and rude at times and will bring whatever mood they have at home/work with them to class!! And God forbid you get sick or have a family emergency and miss class time, the teachers will drop you from class even if it was the last day of class! I hated every minute of spencerian but I did manage to graduate with a high GPA. Bottom line DO NOT attend spencerian you can get a much better education els where such as jcc or UofL with a lot less cost. Go to a school that cares about education not profit. | Preparedness: C-, Reputation: D | | |

| | Quite Bright | Spencerian College is a JOKE! I began in 2008 to get my Nursing degree, but it was a horrendous experience. Classes started a week late due to the weather (which couldn't be helped), but once they started I knew I had made a huge mistake. The nursing instructors and the lab instructors are completely incompetent and acted like you are an inconvenience when you asked them a question. The teachers are under paid, so most of them are just passing their time working at Spencerian until they get a better paying job. The teachers DO NOT teach. I was in my first quarter of nursing classes and my instructor would tell us to read the chapters in the book, and then when we would come into class she would just read from the book, word for word. If you asked her a question in regards to the information, she would re-read the paragraph! 3-4 hours a day of listening to an idiot read out of a book is definitely not worth $25,000. Each chapter had NCLEX review questions to help you prepare for boards, and even though the answers were in the back of the book, the teacher would insist that she knew the right answer and the book was wrong! She normally would skip critical thinking, apparently, critical thinking (even though it is a requirement to be a nurse) isn't important during nursing school! During skills check off, a majority of students were passed because they had a lazy lab instructor who just didn't care. I am pretty sure if this is how they are during lab, then they don't care how you do in clinical. I have worked in the medical field for several years now, and I thought people were joking when they said that employers don't want students from Spencerian, but I have learned that it is true! There may be a few students who teach themselves and become successful nurses, but the vast majority will slide by, and who would want a nurse who "floats" through nursing school? When it came to our first test, all of the students were freaking out because nobody had any notes or had learned any information. The teacher told everybody to quit stressing that she would give a review---and what a review it was! The teacher stood in front of the class, test in hand, and read word for word 1-45 the test questions and answers. She spoke extremely fast. Students were trying to write what she was saying down because they had nothing else to go on to study. When a student asked her to slow down, she was in disbelief. Finally, one student threw up her hands and told the teacher to just give her an F on the test! The teacher said, I don't understand why everyone is writing down every word I say, this should all be in your notes. WHAT NOTES? The only thing any student had, was every single line highlighted in their book because she read line for line. I ended up withdrawing 3 weeks into the program because I would rather take the loss on my 3 weeks of time and money, then to spend another 2 years and $45,000 on the lack of education. I would rather wait and go to a school who actually cared whether or not they produced competent, successful nurses. I would not suggest anybody attend Spencerian College, no matter the hurry to get done---it's not worth it!!! | Collaboration/Competitive: C, Education Quality: F | | | |
