If you are an international student you may want to reconsider coming to this school. My worst mistake was choosing this school.
The University's (graduate) school of public policy andFeb 28 2009Public Policy
The University's (graduate) school of public policy and administration is mediocre at best. If you are a driven individual looking to be intellectually stimulated and challenged or are expecting to gain skills that will benefit future career objectives this program will likely be a disapointment. If, however, you lack motivation and don't mind a largely useless faculty this may be the program for you.

The program lacks the funds to attract engaging, outside faculty with experience in the realm of public policy/administration. Many of the faculty received their degrees from this program (a huge red flag) and have no personal experience working in the public sector. The University, overall, is only concerned with attracting research dollars to meet is Top 20" goals. Sadly, it has lost sight of adequately educating students.

Avoid this school at all costs!May 11 2006History/Histories (art history/etc.)
Avoid this school at all costs! Professors are leaving as quickly as they can due to the prevalence of nasty politics at this school (especially in humanities departments); it has dropped substantially in college rankings over the past few years, also. Within my department, the faculty resent being here and feel they should be at a 'better' university. This attitude is transferred onto students. In my unfortunate time at this school, I have seen several graduate students chased away because of departmental politics. Overall, it is a depressing, horrible environment-- I cannot stress this enough: stay away!
In short, if you're interested in studying Humanities,Mar 01 2005History/Histories (art history/etc.)
In short, if you're interested in studying Humanities, stay away! The faculty here are certainly well-published and intelligent, but have a acquired a deserved reputation for being hateful, especially to their graduate students. The majority have degrees from Ivy League schools and are bitter that they are at UK. In turn, they take this out on their graduate students; they go out of their way to make sure we know that we are 'second-rate' students at a 'second-rate' school. This attitude translates into very little support within the department for your research or job goals. Further, the department does not provide support for its PhDs beyond TAs. You will not be able to get the real teaching experience you need to be competitive in today's market.
