ResLife- The way I see it ResLife isn't too great anywhere. The staff is helpful but they are looking for ways to get the most money out of you. Madonna sucks- I've never lived there. But it really needs to be updated or totally demolished. The other dorms aren't bad! They are all new and modern. Central Air. Decent Bathrooms. RAs- some are assholes. a lot of the girls are bitches.
Academics- In all honesty the school work isn't too hard. I wasn't expecting it to be really hard. But thats the thing- everyone swears up and down that its easy... easier than highschool then they fail out. If its so easy why are you on academic probation? And trust me, a lot of people are on probation or will leave for grades. The professors at AMC are great. They are always helpful and really do try to get to know their students. They're always willing to talk about anything and everything when they're free.
Food- Sodexco wasn't bad. Last semester they started listening to students and it got good. But it wasn't that healthy. We have a new company called Sage now starting fall 2011.
Technology- computers are everywhere on campus. but updates need to happen. The library should be updated. Some parts of some dorms have no internet service either.
People- Theres some really cool people to meet at AMC. I've had some great times here and met best friends. A lot of people will be close minded since they are local and will only hang out with people they know from highschool/hometowns. Its easy to make friends here. Though you will see alot of people go. I think its getting better with class of 2014 & 15. But the upperclassmen have something like 40% of their original class left. people dropout, get terrible grades, transfer, don't go to class or can't afford it.
Social life- Theres parties and fun times. Obviously theres no ripper frat parties. Madonna was always the place to go but now that its freshman I guess the suites be where the parties are. A lot of people go to shady clubs in worcester or providence for thursdays/weekends.
Nightlife: There is nothing to do in Paxton, MA. You will have to drive to Worcester, which seems close, but will use up a fair amount of gas. If you don't have a car, make friends who do, otherwise you will be trapped on campus. Also, the campus is a ghost town on the weekends since everyone goes home.
Security: Paxton police department are the public safety on campus. So if you are drunk and they catch you, you won't just be written up, you will be ARRESTED and sent to JAIL. If they catch you smoking weed, you will be ARRESTED and kicked off campus. I can't stress this enough. If you walk into your res hall and you smell like weed? You can be KICKED OUT PERMANENTLY of your residence halls for smelling like weed. It happened to five friends of mine.
Res life/campus policies: The new suites are not up to par with the $1 million they spent to build it. The a/c units do not work. The walls are uneven and easily chipped, which you will be charged for. Also it is a cell reception dead zone. Madonna Hall is mainly freshman, and is alright now that there is more housing available. Be prepared to pay for damages brought on by ANYONE who enters the building. If they don't catch who did it, the whole hall pays.
Also, don't expect to have fair rulings in disciplinary cases. If you aren't white, be prepared to have to appeal and kiss ass. They market themselves as very anti-racist, but the administration acts in the exact way they say is wrong. One person may get in trouble for hitting someone, but another person will not get in trouble at all.
Coursework: The coursework is easy. I had more in high school. If you don't plan on going to classes though, don't come here. Attendance is VERY important.
Students: The freshman class this year was a great group of kids, the upperclassmen weren't as awesome though. I feel that anyone who was alright had made the smart decision of leaving already.
Food: The food is absolutely disgusting. They hired a new food provider this year, but the food didn't improve at all. As disgusting as it is, be prepared to be shitting the entire year. It happens to everyone. Oh, and the food you taste at Orientation is not what you will be eating the entire year. We got excited when there were orientation days because we knew the food would be better that day.I withdrew after one year and will NEVER be returning to this school. About half of our freshman class left too. I wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy you can get a much better education for half the price anywhere else. Don't waste your time here.
