Quite Bright
Anna Maria College now has a "vision 2012." Apparently, the school needs to drastically increase its enrollment if it wants to stay open. So, as a current student at AMC, I watch my $35,000 being spent on attracting more students (and in turn, their $35,000).

As far as I've seen, Anna Maria has not put any effort into increasing activities or resources for its current students. The dorms, library, and dining area are all in desperate need of upgrade.

If asked, I guarantee every 3 (possibly 4) out of 5 students at AMC wish they would've picked a different school. The professors and most of the classes are terrific, but the bad drastically outweighs the good at Anna Maria. Five years from now, this might be a great school, but not now. Administration is more concerned with improving the school's image rather than improving the school itself.

Not so bright
Security: Campus safety often does not respond, either because they feel they have responded enough that night or they might just not be available. Security consists of +/- 2 "officers". One officer I knew got fired for smoking dope with a fellow Criminal Justice student.

Student Activities: Except for the few sports they offer, the college does not have much to do. Many students drive 2+ hours to Providence, Rhode Island to go to nightclubs. Drugs, alcohol and sex are the big three recreational activities here that was an overriding theme throughout my time here. Guaranteed to lose your virginity within 6 months.

Safety: A lot of times I would see rediculous things like feces in the urinal and the toilets having their doors and seats ripped off...some sort of joke I guess. The bulletin board got caught on fire one time by a drunk student...that sucked. One girl I knew got raped here. Used to get beer bottles smashed in the hallways, urination down the stairwells--would call campus safety but they would not respond until much later (if at all). The resident assistants are useless and without leadership. Even though, and sometimes BECAUSE it is a bit rural, you get an environment that is not always the most reassuring. You will pay for any damage that is not pinned on one particular person, as will everyone else on that residence hall.

Staff: Got accused one time of doign something I didn't, all because I shared a first name with the perpetrator. When everything got straightened out, the accusing dean of the college never apologized. This really PO-ed me.

Faculty: They flee the building after classes, good luck getting help after lecture. Plenaries exist and are difficult to follow.

Students: Generally not too bright students go here, but their parents can afford to send them. Therefore it is a school for unmotivated, under-achieving rich kids.

Religion: Instituted in everyone's mandatory general education requirements. Good luck with these!Retention: 100% of my friends left this place, and at least 35% of all classmates in my graduating class. About as many teachers left as well.
Useful Schoolwork: C, Education Quality: F

This school accepts EVERYONE. All they are out for is your $45,000. The faculty/administration are the most self-absorbed, racist, and condescending group of people I've ever met.

Nightlife: There is nothing to do in Paxton, MA. You will have to drive to Worcester, which seems close, but will use up a fair amount of gas. If you don't have a car, make friends who do, otherwise you will be trapped on campus. Also, the campus is a ghost town on the weekends since everyone goes home.

Security: Paxton police department are the public safety on campus. So if you are drunk and they catch you, you won't just be written up, you will be ARRESTED and sent to JAIL. If they catch you smoking weed, you will be ARRESTED and kicked off campus. I can't stress this enough. If you walk into your res hall and you smell like weed? You can be KICKED OUT PERMANENTLY of your residence halls for smelling like weed. It happened to five friends of mine.

Res life/campus policies: The new suites are not up to par with the $1 million they spent to build it. The a/c units do not work. The walls are uneven and easily chipped, which you will be charged for. Also it is a cell reception dead zone. Madonna Hall is mainly freshman, and is alright now that there is more housing available. Be prepared to pay for damages brought on by ANYONE who enters the building. If they don't catch who did it, the whole hall pays.

Also, don't expect to have fair rulings in disciplinary cases. If you aren't white, be prepared to have to appeal and kiss ass. They market themselves as very anti-racist, but the administration acts in the exact way they say is wrong. One person may get in trouble for hitting someone, but another person will not get in trouble at all.

Coursework: The coursework is easy. I had more in high school. If you don't plan on going to classes though, don't come here. Attendance is VERY important.

Students: The freshman class this year was a great group of kids, the upperclassmen weren't as awesome though. I feel that anyone who was alright had made the smart decision of leaving already.

Food: The food is absolutely disgusting. They hired a new food provider this year, but the food didn't improve at all. As disgusting as it is, be prepared to be shitting the entire year. It happens to everyone. Oh, and the food you taste at Orientation is not what you will be eating the entire year. We got excited when there were orientation days because we knew the food would be better that day.I withdrew after one year and will NEVER be returning to this school. About half of our freshman class left too. I wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy you can get a much better education for half the price anywhere else. Don't waste your time here.
