You get out of Bezerklee Pool of Mucus what you put into it.

There is a 50% drop out the first year because frankly most of the people there are NOT musicians, they are posers.

Berklee has a very tough 1st year which weeds out the wanna-be's.

DO NOT depend on this school making you a great musician. In fact, count on them ruining your style with too much thinking.

That being said, it is AWESOME for learning theory. Then walk away from the theory and let the soil of time cover the seeds, then the seeds sprout and you simply KNOW how to play, no thinking needed.

And DO NOT expect the degree to get you a job and place but Japan. ESPECIALLY in Boston.

Internships, networking, gigging out, connections are the key.

I was a so-so student at Berklee, but I understood the value of internships. And so I had a job even before graduation. The hot shot student engineer??? He was unemployed and had to go back to Germany.

My path at Berklee led me to where I am now. I didn't expect it, but I would not change it.

Good luck!

There more you give to Berklee, the more it'll give back. It is a fantastic school where the MOST important thing you learn is how to be humble.

When people get to Berklee they arrive thinking they are the most fantastic musicians ever. But then they find themselves surrounded by a myriad of talented people, and you really see how and why some people succeed in the music industry and why some don't.

Berklee is a contemporary jazz school. If you don't play any jazz you might still do OK, and also if you only play 40's be-bop you won't be the most in-demand player. But if you are versed in many different styles within the jazz idiom, and if you can open up to other things outside of jazz as well, you'll find yourself at home here.

I'm having the time of my life in this school and I am learning and applying things that at one point I thought were completely out of my reach. But then again, I spend 3 hours in a practice room every single day.

Super Brilliant
It is pretty damned simple: Berklee is a fantastic college to be if you yourself are a fantastic musician. I really don't care a bit if this sounds unpleasant because the entertainment industry isn't either. Even with the new audition process Berklee is VERY EASY to get in to. If you failed the audition, don't even think of trying again - just get real: music is not for you. A great deal of the students are musical air-heads with absolutely no intellectual curiosity and no genuine innate musicality, yet they expect Berklee to transform them into something far removed from what they are really capable of. It is safe to say that almost all of the negative comments present on this site originate from people who simply should never have come in the first place. Who cares if you think you're good?! That doesn't impress me one bit. Impressing your peers and impressing an entire industry are two very different things. There is very little point in coming here unless you are actually good at what you do. This sounds painfully obvious yet many people miss this point entirely. Don't lie to yourself because Berklee is expensive and only worth the time of those who are on scholarships anyway. I for one had a great time with great facilities and teachers and am doing VERY well. It irritates to me to see people complain about a college using their lack of success as an argument. If you and your three chords on guitar can't get a gig you can't possibly blame Berklee. Most people here don't appreciate the difference between loving music as a hobby and using music as a way of life and business - this explains the angry comments.

I really don't get why BCM has so many negative reviews. I personally loved this school. I enjoyed 4 years of studying at this school. I am going to graduate this year. I majored in Music Business/Management and already got into a big recording company in Korea. (Universal Music Korea owned by Universal Music). You see...heres the thing. There are so many people at BCM who really shouldn't belong. The fact that BCM doesn't look at your SAT/ACT score or your academic grades, some people are just there to satisfy themself. There's a reason why more than 50% of students get dropped because they can't keep up with the work. On the other hand, there are people that are very passionate and hard workers. All of my friends got into some big coorporation. People often complain how they can't get a job after graduating from Berklee. But that's just ridiculous. You put 100% effort in and you get 100% out of it. Yes, Berklee is very expensive. But if you think about all the tech stuff that they have, which they update to brand new programs, keep up with the newest technologies, it's reasonable. I also heard that Berklee is currently negotiating, to purchase the hynes convention center. That's going to make a huge difference in the future. So if you are thinking about coming to Berklee, please don't just come to satisfy yourself because you didn't get into any other univeristy. 99% you are going to dropout and waste your money. But if you are sure this is what you want to do, and you are very passionate, I strongly recommend this school.
