Very disappointed how candidates are graded. Each professor thinks differently end result student suffers. Minor mistakes like missing references or spelling mistakes or format issue, you lose 30% of grade. How fair is this? Mistakes do happen and they have to be corrected but not by spoiling the carrier of a student. Once you lose motivation and respect, there is very little you can do?

I'm currently a graduate student at Brandeis. I believe this is an outstanding place to work towards an advanced degree. If you are pursuing a degree in the biological sciences here, you should expect to be continually challenged, and you should expect to grow intellectually by leaps and bounds. The faculty are experts in their fields and will expect and inspire an equal level of motivation out of their graduate students. The key to a positive experience is to choose a lab to work in that fits well with your personality. Another plus of the university is its interdiciplinary communication and debate.
