 | Bright | If you like to have fun the best thing to look forward to at this school is the weekend trip to Amherst. It's a commuter school so come saturday everyone leaves. The Dining Hall is open 11:30 to 1 and 4:30 to 6 on weekends. So if you wanna eat early you're out of luck. The bus from north/east to south is a pain. It takes a funky route through the city because the bridges are temps. Students here are good people and down to earth. You'll get the occasional full of themselves athletes but they are far and few betwen. Commuters generally don't put effort into the ulowell social life so you'll make alot of friends from class you'll never see. Faculty can be unhelpful so remember if you need help with something demand it. You are paying $20,000+ a year so don't let faculty blow you off. If you put the effort in they have no choice but to help you. I just switched to business so my above ratings are directed at gen ed classes. Currently I don't have an opinion of the business faculty. The school truly is the best thing to happen to Lowell since the factory days, they bought the tsongas arena and it's now a beautiful facilty opposed to a dump. Within the next 10 yrs. this school will do wonders for the lowell economy/ community. They are expanding furthermore. Parking is a nightmare. Good luck finding a spot if it's past 9:30. The recreation center is beautiful and can be alot of fun. However a few of the supervisors are a bit snooty. There are way more guys then girls so women get hit on constantly. Some like it, some are uncomfortable with it, people make a bigger deal about it then it really is. The restaurant Suppas is made up to be better then it it is, but it's still decent. Housing is cramped with too many forced triple bedrooms. It is uncomfortable and on that basis alone I would recommend a different school. For me personally, I don't care about any of this. I lived here for a year and have been commuting ever since. I'm satisfied with getting the highly touted degree for a cheap price. | Individual Value: B+, Extracurricular Activities: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | I went to UNH, and while the social and night life was much better, I feel UMass Lowell was a more personal academic experience. Rather than being a number in a room of 300, professors spent time with each student. | Education Quality: A, Social Life: B- | | | |

| | Quite Bright | | The quality of education at UML really depends on your department. Students in the Sciences do well and are getting a good education at a value. As are students in the Music and Art programs. As a Sociology major I would advise people to either choose a better major, or study Sociology at a better institution. The full time professors are great, intelligent and approachable people, but the quality of the student body hurts the program. Most of the students in the major are only there because they couldn't cut it in other departments. The major is not particularly rigorous so many students just float along and graduate. For those who are interested in the subject, there are very few courses to choose from. However, professors are accommodating and are happy to do independent studies for credit.Overall the general stupidity of the majority of the Liberal Arts student body is what hurts UML. Still the low price tag makes suffering through this place doable. I started at a community college and transfered to UML with no trouble and have lived off campus so my final bill will be shockingly small. With the problems that this country is having economically likely to continue for years to come it is best that students save the fantasy of the "dream school" for graduate study. For undergrad, which has become meaningless, swallow your pride, save your money and go to UML. At least here you will stand out as a scholar if you have more than 6 brain cells. | Collaboration/Competitive: A+, Campus Aesthetics: F | | | |
