Quite Bright
This is a great school if you dont mind the fact that the parties on the weekend dont even come close to touching those of umass amherst and UNH, and all the other major party schools in New England. Its a big school, but if you live on campus like i do, soon you will see just how friendly everybody is... this is a community, and a good one at that. We all have eachothers backs, and no matter what you are into, you will find people here that you will get along with very well because UML is truly a melting pot of different personalies. Overall I am having a great experience here (maybe some more girls would be good, its about 30%), but dont let that stop you from coming to a university where you will have a good time and be able to truly focus on your education. I got into Suffolk, Wentworth, Keene, Plymouth, Umass Amherst, and UNH... but overall I am so happy i choose UML. Its not a utopia here or anything, of course there are a few negatives, but its a great place that focuses on education and community. Really there is nothing to complain about! Umass is great not for what it has, but what it doesnt; social cliques, high pressure, or crazy parties all the time that distract you from getting a great education. just keep that in mind!

I love UML, people always complain about the social life... I joined a fraternity and have a great social life. For engineering/ sciences this is a VERY difficult school. But its worth ever ounce of work, because people when they graduate make a lot of money. Business is a waste of time, go to school for something worth while.

Not so bright
As a college freshman, I was very excited to come to UML despite the negativity that always comes paired with it. I came in very optomistic about it but was soon thrown flat on my face. In October I got mono and my teachers were terrible at keeping in touch with me while absent. One professor did not notify me that my absences were going to result in failure, and failed me on short notice, totally screwing my GPA. Another was actually rude to me when I asked what I could do to keep up. The staff here is unhelpful and a lot do not even speak english, although I'm sure there are a few bright professors around here somewhere..most likely in the engineering department.

Socially, this school sucks. 80% leaves on weekends, nobody attends any sporting events, the frats and sororitys are an actual joke, and the same three houses have parties every weekend. Boys are sketchy, and two of my friends have actually been rufied. It is never safe to walk alone at night ever.

The food here is awful. It is overwhelming and seems awesome for the first week of school, but eventually the processed food makes you sick to your stomach and there is never any good dinners or options. Its the same thing every week, and by Sunday, there is legitimate leftovers served, who knows how old they are. The cafeteria staff is rude and cannot speak english. The hype about this school becoming the next big thing is false. I cant picture this school ever getting a better reputation, and I actually just applied to transfer to even UMASS Dartmouth just to get out of here. I am not saying this at all because I had a poor time socially, because I was very active, made a lot of friends and came here with three of my close friends from school. It just sucks here. I dont know anyone who is planning on staying all four years.
