 | Quite Bright | If you can afford to or have the opportunity to attend another institution do so. Most of the negative comments here are valid and not overstated. I am a veteran student here at Bowie State University and was sold a bill of goods when I attended the open house. The resources are minimal, advisement is terrible and some of the Professors are arrogant and opinionated to a fault. I did not attend college to have to sit in class and hear about someones political and religious beliefs. Personally, I could not recommend this institution to anyone. Oh, and if you are a veteran Warning!! Do not attend this school or you will have holds placed on your account every semester until the VA pays your bill. Please! DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL. | Campus Maintenance: A+, Surrounding City: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | I am a transfer student and this is my first semester at Bowie State University (BSU). I have atteneded several community colleges prior to attending BSU and I would much rather be at a community college than at BSU. There are many issues with the administrative side moreso than the academic side (for me anyway). I have had issues with admissions, student accounting, financial aid, the veterans affairs department and the advising department. I am a nursing major and the secretary/front desk woman in the nursing department is a mean nasty woman. She has a bad attitude and is relunctant to help anyone do their job. The advisors are RUDE and at times unprofessional. I planned to attend BSU in the fall of 2011 but the admissions department took 6 (six) months to evaluate my transcript needless to say no classes were open. The financial aid office sat on my paperwork for weeks and did not inform me of the steps I needed to take to recieve my student loans. The veterans affairs department also sat on my paperwork for several weeks also causing alot of stress in regards to my tution being paid and excess money being returned to me. The student accounting department does not communicate with the VA or financial aid department prior to making choices about student registration. Bowie State University should be a LAST RESORT option. This is the worst institution I have ever attended and I am a Army Vet. Id much rather be at a community college than here. They lack supplies in the biology department and I am sure every place else because BSU is going *BROKE*. AND WHEN I SAY BROKE I MEAN *****BROKE*******. Just check all your other options dont let BSU be your first. | Faculty Accessibility: B, Individual Value: F | | | |

| | Super Brilliant | | Hello all, this review obviously is about Bowie State University. Bowie State University is a school with potential. Sure, the school might not have the best library in the world. Sure, the school might not have the best English and Social Studies building or the finest gym or any of the extra items, but the point is the education is not bad at all and is surely worth the money compared to overpriced mediocre schools. The problem with Bowie is more social and campus maintenance. Again, this is the fluff not the main part. Some professors are true professionals and want to see everyone grow and develop. Some are condescending or annoying to deal with. As a Black American University you are able to meet people from the continent of Africa, the Caribbean islands, South Americans, and American Black people. The diversity within the Black community is very well here as far as culture is concerned. Sadly, some of the students here all are followers and imitate other students by acting thuggish, urban, ghetto etc.. There are some good students here that you won't find anywhere else, but there are some stereotypical students that you just frown and shake your head at. The weed problem needs to be addressed. I am sick of the loudmouths all over the place with weed. Instead of doing those things, students should form MORE activities. This place is a ghost town especially on weekends. Sure, it is great to rack in great grades, join a club or two or work during the school year, but no activities is no fun sorry. The place is too cliquish also. I can't believe how many cliques I have seen here just like any other college though. The people that do not fit the ghetto/thuggish stereotype have their own cliques and vice versa. The school just needs to screen some of the students that come in here and everything should be fine. Commuters get a nice quiet surrounding city outside the beltway so crime is not a huge issue. The dorms themselves are quiet, but you have to definitely watch your belongings there. The place is underrated. I guess because this college does a poor job at getting its name out there for students to attend. The place needs to get on the radar, if it wants to gain money and resources which it desperately needs. The gym/pool is just a joke. The MLK building needs to be torn down as it is uncomfortable to take classes in. It is hard to focus in there. The library needs a wider selection. You should not need to go to other libraries when you pay a tuition for a school library that should be competent on the campus itself. Bowie just needs to pay attention to small details more. Many of the buildings yell to be worked on. The place is not cheap, so money should not be used on those wide screen televisions all the time just an idea. The place does not have to be a replica of Hollywood just make it more attractive and kick out some of the bad influential students better yet have a screening system for requirements to get in. This won't happen overnight but is some advice for the school and students to utilize. | Individual Value: A+, Campus Maintenance: F | | | |
