Not so bright
all those ppl that said the school is not easy to make friends must not of gone here. I don't know one friendless person here. Even the poeple who would be "mocked" at a big school have a good group of friends like everyone deserves. Which would you rather, a group of close knit friends and seeing so many happy faces say hi as you walk from class to class or just knowing ALOT of people and not having those happy faces you pass and a close knit community? well smcm is the close knit happy faced community. The admissions does suck in the fact that getting classes and all is a pain and esp if ur a first year or transfer, but its easy to go to each class and then have the teacher let you in, its the difference of a small school vs big school. i came here and im shy, and in the first week had sooo many friends. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. I don't know if those ppl wrote about the wrong school or if they were messed up cause smcm is amazing and im not jst saying that from my point of view im saying it from the point of view from every person iv seen walk up and down the birck sidewalk, those who are awkward, cool, fun, weird, different, everyone has someone here at smcm and so will you.

Not so bright
I transfered here from a big university and I am so glad I did. It's a small school but it's deff worth it. The partying is alot of fun, you get a close group of friends and there is always a party available but there is no requirment or pressure to go to them. Many ppl just have as much fun hanging out with each other. After only a week of being here it is impossible to walk down the path and not see a familiar face, beaming at you and waving high happy to see you. There is not much close but someone is always around to give you a ride to lexington park which is close and has all the essentials. School work is hard but the social part makes up for it. There is also every type of person here. If you like to hardcore party, there is always ppl ready to party and the party's are wayyy more fun then big school parties . there are big sized parties and small groups of partying and off cmapus partying depending your style. The on campus parties are alot of fun and fill up a section of housing called the greens. If your not too into partying there are always ppl chilling in the common rooms and watching movies and playing games or just hanging out. There is the co-op where alot of people eat instead of going to the main food center. It's a vegetarian kitchen which is alot of fun and is great if you like to cook and have delicious meals. I personally cant cook so i didnt join it but i do get snuck in occasionally by friends who eat there and they make the most amazing food out of stuff you'd never think to be good. The great room(our main food place) has amazing lunch and brinch and sushi, dinner is not the great but you will always find something you'll enjoy and weekends, don't eat there except for brunch, eat at quiznos and/or the grill or the grind which is next to it. Make sure to get alot of flex, you go through it! and they pay for quiznos, the grocery store(the grind which has amazing smoothies) and the grill so YOU dnot have to pay for it. Basically this school is amazing. come :)

I loved my time at SMC. The professors were engaging and helpful, and really helped to make sure that I understood the content and went beyond.

A lot at St. Mary's is what you make of it. If you're willing to seek out help, or seek out activities and clubs, you'll be fine. If you're waiting for the prof to come to you because you haven't been doing well...you're going to keep waiting. You've got to take some initiative.

I noticed a couple people that had some bad experiences at SMC in the past. Of course it still happens -- not everyone's going to be happy when they graduate -- but I feel that on the whole things have gotten better. The comment about the music department is probably right: I find them to be self absorbed, arrogant, and rude (not unlike many of the current students in that major...).

They're not the rule. I call my professors by first name, and get told to stop calling them by doctor. I stop into their offices on a whim, and have regular coffee/tea meetings with faculty far outside my field. If you're friendly, willing to engage, and open, you'll find a good match at St. Mary's.

This school is amazing! I went to a snooty high school where people thought that a public LAC wasn't worthy of their attention. This school is 1/2 the price of other amazing LACs and offers a great education. I totally recommend the school, even if you have a 1500 on the SAT and a 4.0 GPA!!
