The University of Maryland presents itself as not being one of those big school, when in reality it very well is a big school. I have been at the University of Maryland for less than a year and hate it. The social life on campus sucks unless you are in a frat. Due to the vastness of the school it is hard to find people who are willing to make friends and who you are willing to have as friends. Overall, there isn't much of an intelligence here. There are no intellectual conversations and the classes are so big that you could never have a dialogue with your teachers or fellow peers. In conclusion, the University of Maryland is a terrible choice of a school and if I could choose all over again I would. I am proud to say that I will be transferring out at the end of the year.

I have only been at Maryland for a semester as a transfer student, but wanted to leave a review. When transferring, I applied to some very competitive schools, and UMD was absolutely the last place I wanted to go to. Well, I ended up having to come here, and on top of that as a commuter. Because of this I have not been especially integrated into the community, but was greatly surprised that I actually have come to like UMD! The classes are challenging and at least two teachers I've had this semester were really excellent.

The campus is so big, that everybody is bound to find something/somebody they like. During my short time here, I have met many people with whom I would want to be great friends.

I heard great things about the Study Abroad program, and most of the exchanges are free! Almost every department has a ton of resources to take advantage of, but especially career center I think excels at that. One complaint I have is the lack of diversity (though the university claims otherwise). I am not of US origin, and love meeting people from other countries. I haven't encountered this at Maryland, though. Almost everybody is from EastCoast US (lower states, which is not very interesting). However, living at the Language House next semester, I hope I meet more international people or at least people who are close-minded in their world-view.

Going to this school was the biggest mistake of my life. I did not want to go here but because of financial issues and my mother's wishes I ended up here. I want to transfer as soon as possible. I am just a number here, and I have found that people seldom reach outside of their own cliques to make friends. People who like to party and get drunk this school may be for you. I live in the dorms and I sometimes am forced to go to the other floors to use the restroom because the bathroom across the hall is littered with evidence of the party the night before. This place drives me crazy. Also, people get away with things that are clearly illegal and are let off with a "warning." There are a large amounts of resources but some of the teachers are not concerned with helping you.
