Coming here, especially out of state, was the worst decision of my life. Unless you are from Maryland and want to pursue what feels like a continuation of high school, I do not recommend this school..

Academics: I have no teachers that know my name. I have no teachers that care enough to make sure their students are ahead on the material. I have a few that are very condescending and make you feel stupid when you ask any type of question. Not a quality education in any sense, you could get better at a different state school.

Night Life: HAAA. Few ghetto bars and the occasional distugstingly packed frat parties. Most of these bars and the streets in general are not even CP students. If this is your idea of a good time, then maybe you'll enjoy it here and I also sincerely pity you. Don't expect to go out alone at night either, and don't expect their to be house parties. Don't expect anything, this place utterly is not a party school despite what people say.

People: If you're from Maryland, you probably won't have a problem getting along seeing as how I'm sure 50% of your high school is here. If you're not, people are very close-minded. There are a few other represented states that tend to fit into the MD lifestyle, i.e. New Jersey. Don't come here out of state thinking people will be open to meeting you. In reality, people could care less. Everyone is very inconsiderate and rude.

Food: is terrible. There are no nice places to eat off campus too so you're basically screwed.

Safety: What safety? College park is a slum

I don't even feel like naming more reasons. Do not make the same mistake I did, I pay for it every day of my life until I finally have the opportunity to get out of here.

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL.

Pros: Good reputation, cheap if in state. Many clubs and ways to get involved.

Con #1) Absolutely disgusting area. Extremely dangerous. No good restaurants or places to shop. Outside of campus is swarming with crack dealers, bums and people with guns. There are many more people who actually live in the town of College Park walking around then there are students. Nothing close to a college town at all. 3 people got shot here this week. Enough said. Sometimes I throw up in my mouth a little bit when I look at how disgusting route 1 is.

Con #2) EXTREMELY expensive if you are out of state. Don't come here if you're from out of state. Maryland lacks on campus housing for non freshman and transfer students, and off campus housing can be extremely expensive. To live in a safe apartment it can be almost $1,000 dollars a month. If you want to live somewhere less safe, it is still probably almost $700 a month.

Con #3) Party scene SUCKS. Absolutely terrible. The environment here is not like other schools where you can go out almost any night and have a good time. There are NO big house parties. The first week there will be a a few, but after that, it's over. You will have to resort to attending the 3 ghetto bars College Park has to offer.

If you are looking for a college town, and a good party scene, or simply just trying to avoid getting shot, I advise you to go somewhere else. Penn State, JMU, ANYTHING!

Quite Bright
atmosphere is prison like with no privacy. cameras are watching everywhere. You cannot even sit in the library without a camera watching you. it is reasonable to put cameras at entrance/exits but they have gotten a little carried away. this type of overkill doesnt help with preventing tuition increases.
this college is not very friendly with visitors. parking is limited in small areas and the rates are very unreasonable.
