Colby College is a very "Comfortable" place to be. I had gone to a prep-school just outside of Boston and loved what I had found there, and wanted to find something similar, because it had worked so well for me in the past. However over the past 3 years I have matured, and in many ways, outgrown the college.

At high school, I took the honors/AP course track, and found my peers to be very bright and interesting. Every now and again, I would just be blown away. This has not happened at all at Colby. All of the interesting students went to Universities. My friends who went to other liberal arts schools (Bates, Dartmouth, Bowdoin and others at Colby) have had similar experiences. The academics are not the issue, it is the students (Academics are fantastic by the way, the professors are wonderful)While Colby made sense for me when I left high school, it no longer does. I would make sure that when you apply to Colby or any other school, you make sure that the school leaves room for you to grow

I am more than satisfied with my decision to attend Colby....the academics are great; the professors are personal, authorities in their field; the campus is beautiful, immaculately maintained; great social life: no matter who you are you'll find you're niche, but thats not to say the social scene is exclusive because its definitely not.

The reigning political sentiment here is slanted toward the liberal and coming here as a conservative and as a evangelical christian I had my doubts about how my views would be taken, but there is a strong core of people who share my views on campus and nobody else really cares that my political/philosophical opinions differ from theirs. So to end I would STRONGLY recommend Colby as a great college.

Colby is the type of place where you have to be the right person in order to enjoy it. I was not the right person. I thought a small college would give me the chance to know everyone, see faculty all of the time, and just be in a good small community. I really regret this now. The students for the most part are either artsy or just snobby. This is everyone's idea of a party: sit in a dorm room with a few friends and drink until you pass out. Then wake up in the morning and brag about it with your friends over a mediocre breakfast. I will say that Colby has an excellent campus and is always maintained and beautiful. It is, however, constantly being changed and you can never go anywhere without hearing construction. Colby might be for some people, but from what I saw, a lot of the people there (myself included) were just downright miserable and had to be fake to have friends. And the worst part of it all, was that I couldn't get away from it. Colby is placed on top of an isolated hill in one of the most sketchy towns in all of Maine (and that's saying something). You'd be lucky to go into Waterville at night and come out alive. Also, Colby claims to be ultra competitive and have top notch academics, but no one seems to actually know this aside from Colby kids and their parents. Nobody seems to care either. When people ask where I go to school and I say Colby, the common response is "where's that?".I had high hopes for Colby, and was really disappointed that it didn't work out. For prospective students, don't let my review dissuade you from Colby - you might love it, but I highly recommend you spend a day & night there with an admitted student before deciding that this is the school for you.
