CMU set me up with great internships and my professor gave me the heads up for a job opening, which led to landing a job before graduation. I had awesome profs and still keep in touch today.
There are so many opportunities to get involved at CMU - take them. I worked for the student newspaper, did PR for my sorority and did two internships that the journalism department helped me find. I know it is what everyone says - but get involved with campus. It really made a difference for me when it came to finding that first job. I work more with marketing and ads than newspapers now, but a CMU alum helped get me my current job too. There are so many CMU grads (I think I read 600,000 globally) and sometimes that connection makes the difference!

I came here based upon the advice of a friend, he said that it is a fairly good school with a huge chance to get involved in social activities. come to find out it is the worst decision i have ever made! first ill start with the good points; the campus is physical nice, well built with nice buildings. and there is a ton of people at the school. now for the bad; the faculty are unhelpful when you can even understand them, allot of them barely speak English. the students for the most part are high school jocks and preps that had parents rich enough to send them to college, those kids picked cmu because of its reputation of being a party school( which it is)and because of the schools lack of academic standards, in short a crackhead could be accepted to this school, Manny of which are! if you are unfortunate enough to live in a lower cost dorm then expect hell! i would leave whenever i could and come back to find my personal belongings destroyed by my roommates and puke on the floor, bed, bathroom due to intoxication while i was gone. when things like this happened i would consult the resident adviser and they would say; talk with your roommates about the issue, that works with humans not with knuckle-dragging, football worshiping apes such as my roommates. students are treated like a limitless bank account, especially freshmen! if you have money they will find a way to take it, there is a fine for everything. for example I chose to leave at the semester mark there is a $300 fine for that and countless other fines associated with early check out from the dorms and school, totaled up around $650 just to leave this crap hole! i thank god every day for being able to leave, if i was forced to stay at cmu for 4 years i would put a bullet in my skull.

Overall I had a positive experience at CMU. The campus is very small so it's easy to go to classes and only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to class. Living in the dorms first semester wasn't as bad as some say. The food was decent. However, it was not the place to get studying done. Major partying school. Most of my classes were fairly easy except the 2 that didn't speak a word of English! Central is more known for as a party school than for its academics. Also, Mt. Pleasant probably has to be the absolute worst town. I think almost everyone living here can agree to that. There is nothing to do but party. Some of the classes are absolutely pointless and easy yet others were challenging and helped prepare me. The people here are friendly and it is so easy to meet people and make friends. Unfortunately I will be transferring next semester to Oakland University to continue my education, however, I will miss CMU.
