I think attending this university has given me serious depression. The only thing to do on the weekends is drink, and the people I've met only use me to cheat/sign them into class when they skip. Also, the food sucks. I'm a vegetarian and they literally have 1-2 choices a day besides the salad bar and pizza. I feel like I'm being babysat constantly. I have been required numerous times to fill out surveys about the school, then after giving my honest opinion I'm required to talk to someone about it because they want me to be successful here. However, the person I talked to seemed to care very little about how happy I was, and only suggested I joined clubs that they were a part of, rather than what would fit to my appeal. Also, the city is HORRIBLE. There's nothing to do here, especially if you're a freshman without a car. Goodluck walking 30 minutes to the closest grocery store.....

Depending on your program- my department advisers and professors were AMAZING! However, the cost of credit hours, the values of the school (i.e. removing a park to build more dorms while current dorms aren't filling every year) and the overall requirements for a degree make this school less of a learning institution and more of a business. My overall advisers were useless and had me take classes that I didn't need thus costing me time and money. My department staff were excellent, helpful, and always encouraging. It's too bad this school puts all of its money into ridiculous things like a new indoor stadium and graduate housing when many of its critical components like classrooms and equipment need to be updated and replaced.I don't hate the experience I had at Central, it taught me a lot about higher education institutions and how much the system is broken. I met my husband here, made great friends, and secured a good job after graduations, but if I could do it over... I'd select a school where tuition matches the value of the education. NOT where tuition foots the bill for a new athletic center.

I was excited to come here and get the "going away college experience," but after about a month of being here, I realized how unfriendly people are and it's like high school all over again & I already just wanted to get out of here and transfer. The town of Mt. Pleasant is very boring with not much to do, besides go to Meijer's (one of the few name brand stores here). Also, there's been a lot of crime here recently, so it's not safe to walk around by yourself. If you want a good education, pick somewhere else because the professors you will get here either don't speak English well or are grad students that do not know what they are talking about. I feel like this school does not care about the students; it's all about money, money, & money. They will squeeze money out of you any way they can. If you are looking to go to a college with a lot to do and a wide variety of students, then pick somewhere other than Mt. Pleasant's CMU.
