This is my first semester here at CCS, and I believe it is the most wonderful place on earth. I call it "Art Heaven". The atmosphere is very competitive. VERY COMPETITIVE. And this is not just a design school, it is very highly developed in the fine arts department and many successful fine artists come out of this school. The staff is always willing to help and challenge you both creatively and intellectually. The work is strenuous... you will only stay if you are able to handle the work load. I average 40 hours of homework a week. But the bright side to the heavy work load is the fact that you see yourself improving exponentially right in front of your eyes. It's a beautiful thing. This school is inspiring and exciting and full of wonderful opportunities. This should be your first choice in an art school. Detroit may sound bad, but campus security will keep you safe, that is for sure. The campus is beautiful as well. So, all in all, it is wonderful, but be ready to work EXTREMELY hard and very long hours.

I spent a semester at CCS-- Beware, it's easy to get in, but hard as hell to stay. ESPECIALLY if you have chosen industrial design. Please don't waste your time going there if you're not willing to pull at LEAST one all-nighter a week. Every student I talked to while I was there has pulled an all-nighter, so don't let the staff fool you - you're going to be working like crazy. That's what you're here to do. I saw EMS wheel a girl out of the cafeteria because she passed out during finals week.

The professors I've had are excellent to horrible, like others have said, the English teachers assume that you are stupid. Easiest A ever. I felt like I learned a lot in nearly every class I took. (for ID) Coming in not knowing what a drill press is IS bad. It can be fixed, but if you're not a mechanical person by nature, maybe you should reconsider wanting I.D. or Trans.

I dropped out because I couldn't handle it. Driving back and forth hours every day took its toll. The classes are very, very competitive (of course, this is coming from an I.D. perspective, other departments are a little less strenuous on their students), often times it will come down to whether you want it more than the person sitting next to you.

Never procrastinate. Never. Fill sketchbooks and sketchbooks with ideas. This will be expected of you.

Don't come here expecting to find yourself. Don't be fooled - foundation is foundation, but from the first semester you're working on your major.

To end it all, the library is fantastic. Take advantage of every resource you can. Get to know people. Work, work, work.

Hands down CCS was the best four years of my life.
I graduate tomorrow and I feel like I am prepared to get into the work force. After seeing art work from other art schools I realized that CCS provided me with the right tools/skills to grow as an artist.

The city of Detroit is getting better, but still I wouldn't walk around alone at night. But CCS offers security vans-to and from school, and to CVS.
Use common sense and you'll be fine.

-The dorms are an absolute shit hole, and if you get stuck in the Palmer Court dorms, be prepared to have your house broken into or your car stolen. Campus security is useless, and you will be harassed by motorists walking to class.

-The labs are never open for you to use, despite CCS claiming them to be, because security is a bunch of dimwits that close them whenever they feel like it and interrogate you when you're just trying to get your homework done.

-The campus jobs are often taken by people who are not in need of financial aid. 95% of students get financial aid so the employers dont really ask anymore. As such, you get a lot of rich kids getting jobs just because they want extra spending money, while the poor kids suffer. Disgusting.

-You take a lot of tedious classes that are required

-The liberal arts classes are an absolute joke-you can pass with an A+ without ever reading the books you paid $200 for because all the professors are shitty community college professors and expect you to be dumb.

-Housing will bill you to tears for any damages in your dorm, even though you will not cause 99% of them. They even charge you for rust stains in your sink, I shit you not.

-A lot of the professors are not qualified enough for what you're paying the school. Many teach at colleges like Oakland or have no real background in the industry.

-They accept a lot of people who flat out suck, just so they can get their money for the first year before students drop out.
