Eastern Has a number of nonfunctional habits, including patching together a major/minor combination. This could leave a student with a nonsaleable degree and be put into the position of being forced into a second bachelor's degree to have the opportunity to educationally/professionally grow. I also found that the State of Michigan does not regulate colleges properly so that a request for assistance will function as nothing more than a non resolved complaint. My advise, be careful and do not let these people push you around. Move schools if you have to and be willing to "dump" your transcript if it holds you back.

Made the decision to go to EMU because I could be near my boyfriend (now husband) and because the school offered the exact major I wanted (Creative Writing). I realize I don't need a degree in this to write a book but it looks good on a resume and could help me land a job in a writing field. Boy was I wrong thinking I would actually learn something. If you intend to go into the creative writing field, try a different major or a different school or both. The program here is dominated by three Advisers who are all completely worthless as professors. They can't answer my questions without giving me a completely confusing answer that makes no sense or they answer my question with more questions and act like I am the stupid one for asking. Everything they have given me to read ends up being about sex, written by someone that they absolutely love but who NO ONE has heard of, or is so out there that I end up having to look up half the words in a dictionary (and I am very literate) and even then I still seem to miss the completely obscure point they try to get at with the piece they want you to read. If I wasn't so close to graduating and if it wasn't for the fact that I need to stay in the area for my husband's job I would transfer to a better school. I feel like I wasted my money and if I decide to go on to graduate school I will be going somewhere else where people actually explain things, the reading isn't constantly offensive, and where I feel like Advisers teach me something an aren't smoking drugs on their down time. On top of all this they claim that the university is safe, yet after I arrived I discovered merely four years before a girl was murdered in a dorm(possibly raped), there was a stabbing in the freshman dorms just a year after I arrived, things are constantly stolen and cars are broken into all the time (one woman was pulled out of her car and the person attempted to steal it), there is a huge group of sex offenders residing just off campus and there was a registered sex offender attending the school and living in the dorms.

I don't not recommend this school to anyone. The campus itself is beautiful with pretty good facilities. As far as education goes you are treated as a number more than A student. When you ask questions about things or need information you usually get the run-around, or nobody gives you the correct information. The food here is TERRIBLE and there arent many choices. In the City overal there is NOTHING to do not to add that the school does ot hold very dependable events. If you come here and don't drive or have a car then you are going to hate being on campus if you don't live close. If I had to have chosen another university I definately would have! Pleas DO NOT go here make a better choice for your education and Money. You DO NOT get what you pay for at all.
