Sort By: [Date] [Major] [Rating] Psychology  Major Salary, Salary Trend, Satisfaction, Unemployment Bright The faculty and education is worthwhile, as are most of the buildings and equipment; however, the administration is reason enough to avoid enrollment, leading one to prefer pursuit of a different institution. The administrative staff is as understanding and competent as they are allowed to be within the parameters set forth by Eastern policies. Eastern's counseling programs are actually professors from the students declared major, who are available for consultation on a rotating basis. Counseling in minor subjects follow a similar design. In my case, due to "counselors" not looking beyond their own designated zone, this system twice overlooked requirements needed to graduate on time, delaying graduation by two semesters. Furthermore, Eastern has abysmal parking with confusing parking lot schedules and strict enforcement of the same. The parking permit office is not very understanding of any infraction. A while ago, Eastern championed that they would not increase tuition, and would keep prices low for students. This was misleading at best. While it is true that BASE tuition did not increase, Eastern has added numerous fees to increase revenue; including department fees (those which are administered for each department of the registered classes), campus life fees (support the various groups and activities on campus), and lab fees (if the prescribed course has a lab along with it). In truth, these fees increase overall tuition and is a bit untruthful on the University's part. Eastern has adopted a paperless policy for billing statements, which only mails a single paper statement after the balance has been sent to collections, often after numerous late fees have been accrued. It is also University policy to remove only 3 late fees regardless of the error and only if the bill is paid in full AND there is no history of fee removal. Eastern touts themselves as understanding and friendly to students, in actuality the only friendly aspect has been the staff, and even then only some of the time. The University's policies are unfair and absolute with no hope of review. It is for these reasons that I will no longer be considering them as a graduate institution, nor will I be donating to any alumni funds. Friendliness: A+, Individual Value: F Have a Question? At the end of my first semester, I lost all of that money because the university failed to post anywhere on their site that the better of the two scholarships was contingent upon keeping the other. If I could do it all over again, I would have gone to my first-choice school rather than this place. In the two years I have been here, I have heard of a murder, a shooting (where only one non-student was injured), and dozens of armed and unarmed robberies. I'm terrified to walk around campus at night, which is a shame, because the beautiful campus is the only thing Eastern has going for it. Do not be fooled - if you want a true university experience, this isn't the school for you. This is a HUGE commuter school, and even the majority of people who live on campus go home on weekends. There is nothing to do on campus, and the clubs/organizations are difficult to get any information on. People are very closed off here - I haven't made any friends that I plan to talk to after I transfer. Ypsilanti is a mediocre city - There are quite a few great restaurants (if you're ever in the area, check out Aubree's and Tower Inn), but other than that, there's nothing to do. You have to drive the twenty minutes to Ann Arbor to be able to do anything, which sucks if you're like me and don't have a car, because the public transit is more confusing than the coursework here. Professors range from great to horrible - I've had one amazing professor in my minor, but a horrible professor in my major who made me despise that field. Overall, coming to Eastern was the worst decision I ever made, and I can't wait to transfer out of this school at the end of this semester. I end up going to UDM for the nursing program so I was only at EMU for a year. I'd say the classes were pretty good but social life SUCKED. And here's my breakdown. The classes were challenging enough and if work at it, you can get good grades. More than half of the teachers were very helpful. Although there was one who never replied emails, and some teachers were clique and don't seem to like students coming into their office hour/hang-out-with-coworker-hour. But many teachers give you extra credit (i know right, extra credit given in a university, how generous!) I went into the ultra intense 1 year long UDM nursing program feeling very prepared so I'm thankful for the classes I took in EMU. Social-- like, serious, people are antisocial here. I usually am able to make a lot of friends no problem. As the matter of fact, I'm quite popular in many places. But here, it's like, serious. I think I've made like 5 friends as a student (3 more as a tutor/supplemental instructor), and only 1 still communicate with me regularly. Oh and I still communicate with one of my professor, he's a cool dude. Anyhow, when i tried talking to people they're either bleh or always too busy to do anything with you. Or they just want to go home asap. Some people were flaky as hell too. And so many students are so whiny! about classes too. I mean come on why do u whine about classes that give you extra credit, and teacher let you know exactly what pages to read?! There weren't many student clubs/organization to choose from either. Tried to do some "green" and volunteer stuff and they screwed me over. Tried to join some video game developing club and people just won't communicate (like they tell me when and where to meet AFTER meeting was over). And I walk around in badass video game shirts only had people comment like twice.Any how, attend the school if you are only looking for education and don't give a crap about making friends.
