University, founded in 1919 and changed from GMI Engineering and
Management Institute on January 1, 1998, is a private, five-year
institute. The school became a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation
in 1926. In 1982, GMI became an independent institution, although
ties with GM remain strong. Its 50-acre campus is located
in Flint, 75 miles from Detroit. Kettering University (formerly GMI
Engineering & Management Institute) has a distinguished history as one
of America's premier technological colleges. Founded in 1919, Kettering
University has a worldwide reputation for excellence in preparing technical
and managerial leaders for industry and society. It is
the special nature of the university that all students are
required to participate in paid professional cooperative education (co-op) work
experiences throughout their undergraduate career, alternating terms of full-time study
with terms of full-time co-op. At Kettering co-op
typically begins in the first year. Kettering students currently co-op
with employers in 43 states and several countries. Most
students are able to co-op with an employer near home.
Students get a jump-start on prime careers and are admitted
