People say that the social life on campus is a little dry, but it really isn't; GVSU is right by Lake Michigan and Grand Rapids! Staff/faculty are almost always friendly and available to answer any questions you have. Professors obviously range in quality just based on teaching style, but most professors take the time to get to know your name and are always open to meeting with you outside of class to ask questions. Many professors include their cell and home numbers so that they are available to you as much as possible - even when they are not working. The campus is beautiful and very well maintained. The faculty here has been awesome and incredibly supportive. In high school I was always told that university professors couldn't care less about their students, but I have experienced the complete opposite here. The professors practically beg students to come to them during office hours to talk, it is really nice. The only complaints I have is that Allendale is really isolated. Grand Rapids is where it's at, and it's only a short bus ride away. This is definitely not a party school as others have stated already, this is a place for serious students who are here to learn and get employed. There is also a severe lack of diversity, but most students that I have experienced are more liberal minded and are aware of the isolation Grand Valley has compared to other universities.
