HFCC is tough for a community college. My brother graduated from there 5 years earlier, and he couldn't believe how much tougher the classes had become. HFCC is trying to obtain more funding, so the best way to achieve this is to create a stronger reputation -- especially amongst four-year universities in the region -- as being a reputable community college. Some of the buildings are becoming quite run down on the insides, and the restrooms in those buildings can become as bad as those at some gas stations at times. However, the allied health (nursing) and IT buildings are more modern and kept up a lot better. The differences between buildings are almost striking at times. Also, different ethnic groups are vying for control, so it can seem pretty 'clicky' around the campus during the daytime. It's not as obvious in the evenings when there are more older students. Some foreign groups of students tend to have weaker backgrounds in English and stronger backgrounds in math than their fellow native students, and the placement tests do not seem to take care of these differences. This results in both native and foreign students feeling disadvantaged in certain classes.

The school is pretty clean and the grounds are well maintained. Most of the people are friendly and approachable but you do have your arrogant a-holes among the students and faculty, but they can be found at any college, I guess.

Some teachers are downright insulting. My math teacher last semester busted up laughing at me and mocked me in front of the whole class because I gave a wrong answer to a problem, and then she acted fed up by tossing her books down on her desk.

My law enforcement teacher would constantly use cuss words during his lecture and try to embarass the male students in class by saying they were gay or "not impressing the girls" if they got a question wrong.

This is not the type of treatment the average person wants to pay hundreds of dollars for.

If you want to know the names of these teachers, just email me and I'll let you know so you can avoid them.

I took general requirements to transfer to a four-year university. This community college was 10 times better than the university I transferred to! The course work was challenging, the staff (with an exception) was very bright and very approachable. I have fond memories of this school and the great profs.

Henry Ford is a top ranked community college. It has an awesome nursing program. You can take pre-med classes that transfer to many universities. Professors are friendly and make learning fun. Class sizes are small so the professors know every student personally by name. This school will challenge you.
Faculty Accessibility: A+, Social Life: B-
