 | Not so bright | I've had nothing but problems at this college. It is nearly impossible to contact anyone to help you with problems you may have. Instead of trying to figure out your problem, you are given short answers and it feels like you were not even listened to. You will be told to always contact someone else to answer your question. Some e-mails will take days for certain departments to get back to you. Again, instead of really trying to understand a student's problem, the faculty are extremely rude. Why act so unfriendly when a student has never been rude and is simply trying to understand? If you state problems that you are having, certain faculty (not all) will not apologize and will ignore the overall picture. I have never seen faculty so unfriendly when I am trying to explain something to them. If it is such a small school, why is it so difficult to be helped? Any information that should be sent to you, won't. They told students that we would be contacted to set up our first appointment to schedule for classes, but I never was. YOU have to contact them and make sure you are on top of everything, especially regarding your schedule. You will not get an apology for behavior or for their mistakes. It's all blamed on something you didn't do, like the students are supposed to know exactly how to deal with problems the college created. It took nearly a month to deal with just one problem. I am a person that always tries to stay on top of things and takes my education seriously. You would think a college would treat a student like that a bit better. I really wanted to like this school, but have had countless problems and not a good experience so far. | Campus Aesthetics: A, Education Quality: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | Leaving after 1/2 a year. Not happy with office staff. Phone calls not returned. For a Christian school I don't see a lot of Christian behavior. Don't agree with getting a grade for chapel. | Surrounding City: B, Education Quality: C | | | |

| | Bright | My experience with Rochester College was absolutely infuriating. I attended their program at the Macomb University Center (with a few classes on Rochester's campus) for a year as part of a 3 to 1 program so I could get a bachelors. At Macomb Community, it was about $80/credit hour and my teachers were incredible. At Rochester, I paid $300/credit hour for the most inexperienced, rude, arrogant and useless teachers I've ever encountered. I'll make an exception for their Intercultural Communications teacher because she was incredible and an absolute gem. One of the teachers went very "fire and brimstone" on us the last day of class and essentially informed a pretty open-minded classroom that if we didn't love God, no one loved us. One teacher was very obviously new, and purposely gave students bad marks if they spoke up in class. Another teacher was a very nice person, but as a teacher he left something to be desired. He was a pastor, and taught a college level Biblical Literature class (which I was told was supposed to be impartial, that went out the window when he told us he was a pastor) and he taught it like it was an 8th grade catechism class. We had a 90 page long book, and we had to fill out worksheets where we had to find the missing word in the sentence. Nothing I learned while I was at Rochester has helped me at all in my degree program (which is Digital Art) and it actually hurt my progress pretty significantly because I was so busy doing the homework which can only be classified as "busy work" so the teachers can say they're doing something that I was removed from my art programs for that year. That put a big dent in my portfolio, which is preventing me from getting a good job. I would advise ANYONE considering this program from Macomb or anyone looking towards Rochester College in general to turn their attentions elsewhere, and high school students especially should consider going to a community college that gives them good education at inexpensive prices. The cherry on top of my experience at Rochester was the spontaneous letter I received 3 months after graduation stating that I owed them money for tuition. I had to get approval to take 18 credit hours, I informed Financial Aid that I would be taking 18 credit hours, but unfortunately because this was all verbal communication and I trusted these people, I have no "proof". Therefore, they only altered my financial aid for 12 credit hours and I'm stuck paying 1800 dollars to a college I hate. All I can do now is dig myself out of the debt that Rochester College put me in and share my experience so that others might look for a better experience. | Preparedness: F, Reputation: F | | |
