 | Quite Bright | I love it here. The other students come in all forms, and I've had no problem meeting people who I can have fun with and relate with. Not everyone is approachable, but where on Earth would EVERYONE be approachable anyway? The technology use and resources here are A+, the campus is aesthetically great looking and wonderfully laid out. If you're living on Central Campus, everything you ever need or need to go to is within walkability, unless you have business on North Campus. The faculty so far has been engaging, and even my GSIs have really seemed to know their field and how to deal with us undergrads. Getting involved is easy and there are so many opportunities to do so. The work so far has been a great balance of challenging and interesting, even in the topics that I didn't expect to have much interest in. This is worth every cent I'm paying to be here. | Education Quality: A+, Individual Value: B+ | | | |

| | Quite Bright | | The University of Michigan is a great place to attend. The University provides mostly high-quality facilities (some are world-class), a wide variety of excellent resources, and intelligent faculty. There is a fantastic combination of school work, extracurricular work, social activity, sports, cultural opportunities, and delicious food. Above all, the people here seem to value intellectually focused conversations more than other institutions that I have visited. Ann Arbor is a vibrant, exciting place to live as well. Inevitably, there are drawbacks. It seems that University is fairly restricting at times. There are a lot of requirements, which does not fit well for all students. Furthermore, it is helpful if one feels comfortable reaching out to people and resources around them (these skills, however, are developed in time). There are people willing to help if you reach out to them. Furthermore, it seems that the University makes it difficult to study abroad relative to other institutions, particularly if one is majoring in business. Lastly, the grading seems to be a poor reflection of one's ability to utilize and understand the class material. There are sometimes curves that are difficult to compete with. This, however, should not intimidate you, as these are common grading problems across many institutions.Overall, the University of Michigan is a great place to go to college. | University Resource Use: A+, Scholastic Success: C | | | |

| | Bright | I have started reading these reviews as my high school son approaches applying to college. I attended U of M as a premedical student coming from a very small all girls high school. I majored in biology and worked very hard to do well. I went on to graduate from at the top of my medical school class and have a successful career in academic medicine. I can truly say now in hind site as an adult, that my academic experience was VERY strong. I learned how to write, think critically, and communicate. Medical school was EASY compared to undergraduate at U of M. While I was a biolgy major, I have fond memories of the history, english, and greek literature classes I took. Coming from a small all girls high school, I loved the diverse and politically liberal feel of the campus. I thought it was great. Yes, its big, but the world is big too, and work environment and adult life aren't always, warm, intimate, and fuzzy. I wouldn't sent a kid here unless they were relatively bright, at least a little bit assertive, and open minded. The student body is diverse, which I view as a plus. As an adult, I look back on the experience and think it contributed positively toward my outlook on life today. I promise, its not all about the football. | Education Quality: A, Collaboration/Competitive: C | | | |
