Positive Negative Neutral Advice
First off.Social Work
First off. Do not listen to any of the negative reviews. WMU is an excellent school, the best in the state as far as I'm concerned. Go to State, develop a drug problem. Go to UofM, get lost in endless hours of philosophy and psople who are not half as bright as their parents bank account is large. Go to Western. Go to Western. the perfect college atmosphere.

Question
Everything is ass backwards at this university.Quite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
Everything is ass backwards at this university. The entire university is too wrapped up in "keeping up with the joneses," that is, the other major universities in this state. They will never be able to escape the shadow of U of M, or even State, and every student that goes here is being overlooked. The university really needs to focus on getting back to what is important, needs to focus on the very commodity that the school is reliant upon, ITS STUDENTS! Ask anyone at the university about the b-school, and they will say, with utter confidence, and hollow conviction "Western has a good business school." Ask them for proof, and that hollow conviction turns into dumbfounded idiocy. Western understands what it means to hype itself, and that an image can be manipulated by touting its own precieved prestige. All I am asking for is objective, quantifiable evidence. The only thing good about the business school is it's furniture. Aside from a single alumni who stumbled into DiamlerChrysler, (no doubt a silver spooner), who is Western's biggest alum? That's right, Tim Allen, the coke-abusing, grunting comedian: the prototypical Western by product. If you wish to challenge yourself, go to Western; every bit of your will to succeed will be challenged by the beauracracy, the retardness, and the lack of substance. Western is a challenge, like trying to jam a round peg in a square hole, just plain stupid. If you want to work hard, and get out what you put in, look elsewhere. If what you seek is something more than drama filled fraternities (which I have experienced first hand, and many have said it is worse than the soroities), close-minded class formats, routinized weekend activities, and suffocating education experiences, look beyond Western, because they are looking beyond you. No classes encourage the fostering of original thought, open discussions, or creative tendencies. You will be a number at this school, as well as a dollar sign. Your money, future, time, and career are best invested pretty much anywhere but here. But than again, maybe I expected too much from the school: I expected them to give a rats ass about me. They forgot that without me, and the 28000+ of my peers, they would be nothing. It is said that a cities identity is reliant upon the tallest building within its city limits: what's kalamazoo's largest predominant structure? An abandoned isolation tower at the expansive loony bin just across the street from the university, seemingly looming over the entire area; you'll drive yourself crazy here.

Well, it could be better, but this isn'tBrightAnthropology
Well, it could be better, but this isn't U of M, for god's sake. maintenance is pretty shoddy, and the university REALLY likes to give non-frat/religious student organizations the run-around. as the secretary of a stumbling club, they don't go through any measures to make things easier.

the city of kalamazoo itself is pretty dead. having come from detroit, i find this dissapointing. there's never anything to do, and what venues do exist cater to fairly select interests. there's really no "culture" here except for the mindless drunk types. the university radio station, WIDR does do a good job of promoting less mainstream musical interests, and they can point you to a good show every once in a while.kalamazoo's proximity to chicago can also be a plus, but that's about as far as it stretches. a quiet, small city, surrounded by farmland. what more could a college student (not) want?
