I came here because the programs are excellent and they offer a number of excellent opportunities for students. WMU is affordable and a great place to go to school. The campus is the perfect size (in my opinion). I have done great in the time I have been here, and I don't care what anyone says because I know that I have what it takes to be successful, no matter WHERE i go to school. The campus has to be one of the best in the country and is completely isolated a few miles from the rest of the University. I can speak personally about the Chemical Engineering department and say that the faculty for the most part is very helpful. The program is very challenging and much is expected out of the students. The atmosphere is competitive, but the program is successful at preparing students for careers in the Engineering Industry. The student interaction is very high in the Engineering programs which helps build relationships and friends beyond college. Glad I can call myself an Alum of Western Michigans Engineering Program!! The University is seriously a beacon of light in Southwest Michigan. Sure there were some problems with the operational aspect of the University but this is normal at any university. My professors were incredibly approachable and also respectful. You have to build that relationship with them and not only go to them when you're in a bind. These are people also and for the most part they're pretty reasonable. The facilities in the Res Halls are slightly outdated, but remember you didn't go to this university for great housing, you went to get an education. I'd rather have great educators than incredibly beautiful housing. The University is expanding in every direction you look and new building have been erected everywhere almost.
