I will be graduating NWC this Spring. I have read plenty of the other reviews, and I can see where many of them are coming from. Please understand, however, that Northwestern is changing for the better, but remaining grounded in Christian principles. This year, Student Government was able to make changes in regards to dancing and cable television on campus. Northwestern is bucking unnecessary "traditions", but still maintaining a solid foundation that is biblically based, as the college will openly tell you.

Beyond that, your college experience is what you make of it. Are there snooty, uptight, ultraconservative students on campus? Absolutely, there still are. During my time here, I have found friends and acquaintances alike who don't come close to that description. Chapel is what it is. I personally think it's kind of cool to at least get an entire student body together and congregate for just a half hour a day. I also believe chapel is changing for the better, as the campus ministries reigns are being handed over to some pretty cool dudes.

Beyond all of that, you will not find a faculty more willing to stick their necks out to make sure their students are excelling. I have had professors frequently invite me over for dinner, generate job leads, and schedule personal advisement times for me. The opportunity for excelling academically, especially in the business department, is great.

Again, your college experience at NWC is what you make of it. I believe students here have a much louder voice than they think they do. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

I went to NWC in the mid 80's and found it to be a rather stifling experience. Although the college is full of a lot of well meaning people, it has never been a first, second or even third tier school. This is not a rigorous school, nor has it ever been so. If you'e going into something Bible related, I would encourage you to consider this school. Math, science engineering- go elsewhere. Check out neighboring Bethel University instead. Their math and science programs are fantastic! The rules at NWC seemed to have changed quite a bit. Given the ultra-conservative reputation of the school, i am surprised to find college sanctioned dances going on. When I was there, one couldn't even hold hands while walking to class without getting into trouble for PDA. The bookstore recently gave out free t-shirts to the first 150 kids who came to dance the "Harlem Shake". 300 showed up. I'm not criticizing, I'm just saying that the school's viewpoint on things is obviously changing. Parents and prospective students need to be aware of this. As far as cost goes, make sure to go into a field that pays well enough to support yourself- including paying off the many college loans you would take on attending a private college like this one.

The faculty are the best part of this college, followed closely by aesthetics.
However, I give this caution. The administration doesn't (appear) to care about the students, and based of my experience they essentially ignored student feedback. This caused me significant frustration. The sports program lacks excitement (True story, on two occasions I was told to 'quiet down' by people in the student section so the opposing football team could get their play off. Apparently that is sportsmanship). Required chapels get really old, really quickly. In fact, so many students began "scanning and scramming" that the school started posting guards at all the possible escape routes. The food is healthy, high quality, required, and overpriced. The dorms are similar, comfortable, quality, required and overpriced. Except for Arden Hall (which I heard they finally demolished). The campus is unsafe. Because the general vibe is that of "well behaved students" security is lacking, and my hall alone had 7 reported robberies my senior year. The students vary from snobby to friendly and down to earth. However, I would say almost across the board, students involved with rez life tend to stay on the snobby/condesending side of things. And be careful, I know of multiple friends who "confessed" things in small group Bible studies who reported to 'the man'. And I am speaking from experience, I was involved with rez life :) Fun things to do though. Ask about the controversy. There is a flash drive floating around with all of Northwestern's dirt on it (and oh, how dirty it is). It is a recording of a meeting between the faculty and administration a few years back. In fact, if this flash drive was ever found, it would be destroyed and the student expelled. Exciting right? Once you are "of age" make jello shots and eat them with huge groups of people in the cafeteria. If you get caught, out you go. On weekends, get up to the tower (and not with the key). Yes, it is very possible, and yes you will get very in trouble. While you are at it have a movie night in the theater room! But no have no fear, you probably won't get caught, as I said before, security is... lacking...
