Missouri Southern is a second rate school with an ever expanding tuition. The amount paid in tuition does not equal the quality of education that is received. MSSU is barely a step above a community college. Most of the students are commuter, non-traditional (meaning over the age of 24), which makes for a very non-college environment. Professors are always making comments and arrangements for student parents, because nearly half of the class has children. If you want a full college experience, go somewhere else.

ADMINISTRATION-STUDENT COMMUNICATION IS TERRIBLE. There are no paper bills sent to home addresses and students will be dropped from classes without any prior notice. I was dropped from spring classes because I hadn't paid a $47 charge that was applied two days before all payments were due. Also, I can go weeks without getting any college related emails in my school inbox.

I graduated the 1st time in 1975 with a BSE, since then I have been back numerous times getting a BSN and taking various classes I feel help me keep abreast of the changes in my field of expertise. I feel that an MSSC graduate earns their diploma, but I went to learn, not get a free pass.

Maybe it is my age and the fact I would talk to a fence post, but I find the students and instructors interesting approachable and pleasant. I have always prefered Joplin over Springfield. Joplin is smaller and friendlier and offers many of the same amenities as Sringfield.

I had a wonderful experience at Southern - the education I received prepared me well to enter the workforce in my field. Just as importantly, the experiences I had during my years there created friendships and memories that I will take with me the rest of my life and helped create the person I am today. I did take advantage of living on campus and getting involved. When I was at Southern, I was a ZTA and loved being part of the Greek system. Those bonds are ones that will be forever. I hope those of you who are there now will get involved and keep it alive. If I did it all over, I would have stayed on campus all 4 years. I wouldn't have had to work as much, and the on campus "family" is a great support.
