When people call Missouri the best journalism school in the world, they do it for a reason. You get real world experience and you truly figure out if this is what you want to do as a career. There is no messing around in the department, so be ready to work once you start working at the Missourian, KOMU or wherever your emphasis area puts you. A LOT of people drop out in the first couple of years which shows that it's not easy, but if you make it through, you feel quite accomplished and you are more than ready to get a good job straight out of college. I have stayed in Columbia to work, but my friends/peers have received jobs in New Orleans, Dallas, Washington, New York, Chicago, Tulsa and more, all straight out of Mizzou. Where else do you see that happening?

Transfered here last semester and haven't regretted it. GO GREEK!!!! Mizzou has one of the best greek programs in the nation and it will constantly keep you busy (in a good way of course)! There are plenty of other organizations to join as well. You shouldn't come out of Mizzou this an empty resume because there is something for everyone. i am very proud to be a tiger

Mizzou is a good school. You have to make it work for you. There are 33,000 students here and many don't make it through. I received my undergraduate degree and found it to be an extremely valuable asset. Bottom line: a lot of kids come here and they aren't ready for college, a lot of those kids get Cs, Ds, and Fs. Columbia is a great town with lots of bicycle paths, restaurants, bars, and so on and so forth. Beautiful nature is abundant -- Mark Twain National Forest, Rock Bridge State Park, Katy Trail State Park (statewide bike path along Missouri River), and various conservation areas surround the city. I like it here. It's true a lot of teachers are researchers, whose interest in teaching probably IS secondary. That being said, you get to know researchers and can probably get a job as a TA, or RA. Internships are plentiful. Opportunities at MU are like ripe apples on a tree, just waiting to be plucked from the branches.
