UM is dirt cheap even for out-of-state, but you get what you pay for. I was drawn to UM because it offered Native American Studies in a place where Indians still live. And I'm outdoorsy so there was plenty to do for me. The campus is beautiful. The mountains are stunning.
It's a typical state school academically. It's not bad but definitely not great except in my major and a couple others. The students are friendly, but they aren't free thinkers. UM doesn't encourage that. If I could do it over I would go somewhere else, but I am no worse off for going to UM. | Education Quality: A, Scholastic Success: C

U of Montana was one of 3 Universities I have attended and by far the best. The combination of professional factilty and staff, great social environment, and great campus/outdoor environment cound not be beat.
For a relatively large school my professors were aware of me and my performance from my freshman year on. The faculty was strong and is pulled from people who want to enjoy the opportunity to live in Montana (so the faculty exceed the reputation of the school).
Over my time at UofM I went from a marginal student to an excellent student. I went from a shy kid to a very social person, and I found the people I met accepting and encouraging well in excess of the other colleges and business situations I have encountered. Go to Montana for a great well rounded experience. Then go elsewhere to work (beacuse there is no work in Montana), and then wish you were still there. | Starting Job: Program manger, Preparedness: A, Reputation: F

| Quite Bright | The University of Montana is a great school that provides lots of experience and opportunities to further your development. However, when it comes to money and administrative procedure, they try to suck you dry and get as much out of you as possible while making it extremely difficult to graduate. I was an academic advisor at UM and there are things they don't even tell us...that they spring on graduating students at the last minute. | Preparedness: B-, Reputation: F | | |

| Bright | I love everything about this school. Montana has everything that a student expects when they go to college. A great football team, ultimate frizbee, and hippies. Montana has fun teachers for the most part. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Extracurricular Activities: B | | | |
