I continue to maintain that Davidson provided me with 4 of the best years of my life! I made lifelong friends, learned a lot in and out of the classroom and had a fantastic time. It is true that the workload is heavy and grade inflation is nonexistent but most students rose to the challenge and enjoyed the intellectual stimulation. The hard work pays off though, with accessible faculty and an Honor Code that relieves a lot of the pressure because you know you are trusted.
After graduating I lived in Africa for a year on a fellowship paid for by Davidson, then attended graduate school on a scholarship I received at Davidson. I'm headed off to nursing school next year and even though I could have started with nursing a long time ago, I'm glad I got the foundation at Davidson first. It has gone a long way in jobs and schooling to be able to think like a Davidson student.
What I love most about being a Davidson alum is how much it feels like a family. I ran into a girl who graduated a year before me - we recognized each other but hadn't been friends at Davidson. Within an hour we were chatting like old girl friends and making plans to hang out again. I worked hard and I played hard and I wouldn't trade my experience for anything. Davidson isn't for everyone but those who attend are Wildcats for life! | Scholastic Success: A+, Surrounding City: B-

| Bright | Davidson prepared me for every job I had and the masters and doctorate I earned were easy compared to how hard I had to work at Davidson. My life would have been very different had I not gone to Davidson and I am glad that I went. | Starting Job: College Administrator, Preparedness: A, Reputation: A | | |

Davidson is an interesting place. With all colleges, there are good aspects and not so good ones. Though it did not live up to my expectations in many ways, it did help me to find myself, and I thank the college for that.
The Good (In no particular order):
1. Some of the people are amazing and these people make the college bearable (students and faculty)
2. Most professors are amazing
3. Professors are acessible and CARE about you
3. The campus is well-maintained and beautiful
4. The academics are rigorous (you get your money's worth)
5. The weather is great
6. They do your laundry:)
7. They match you with your roomate with a personality test (doesn't always work)
The Bad (in no particular order):
1. The student body is not diverse (ethnically, religiously, etc.)
2. The administration thinks of minorities only in terms of numbers. The administration also expects minorities to "enlighten" the majority. (Shouldn't the majority actively try to itself with the minority too???)
3. The administration does not accomodate the needs of the students.
4. The library is too small...you need interlibrary loan to do research of any kind.
5. It is impossible to escape tradition at Davidson
6. The administration and students have an inferiority complex...any college that has to call itself the Princeton of the South every 5 minutes is unsure of itself.
7. The social life gets stale. Patterson Court is high schoolish with alcohol
8. If you are familiar with Northeastern cities, Charlotte is not a real city...it's a financial district
9. If you don't have a car...it kind of stinks
10. You're "weird" if you are outspoken
11. There's a "God Squad," that is, at times, condescending
12. Eating houses charge you if you can't attend meetings
13. You need to work like a DOG...BIG TIME to succeed academically.
14. Grade deflation can be a bummer
14. There's still North/South debate:(
15. Davidson is a cute little town...but not much there!
16. Extracurriculars besides publications and religious groups don't do much because people are so into their work
17. Some students think WAY to highly of themselves because Davidson is #7 on US News and World Report.
18. Since Davidson is so small EVERYONE knows EVERYONE's business 19. People can get sick of each other after a while | Scholastic Success: A+, Surrounding City: D

| Quite Bright | My experience at Davidson so far has been fantastic. Davidson does a great job with roommates - my roommate from Freshman year is still one of my best friends. The Student Union is really, really nice and always bustling with students. The professors are terrific (one of the Spanish professors is a little nutty, but there isn't a single bad professor at the college) and accessible; it's not unheard of for students to have dinner with their professor and his or her spouse. The gym is really good, the 24-hour room at the library is always handy (if you're coming, be warned of a LOT of studying), and there is always coffee available. :-) Socially, there is nearly always activity down at The Court (where the fraternity houses and women's eating houses are located. Eating houses are Davidson's variation on sororities...kind of). The underclassmen dorms are mostly very nice - Belk was just renovated, and the rooms are terrific. Dormitory Row dorms are decent, but Irwin, Belk, and Akers aren't all that hot. The Senior Apartments are wonderful. The facilities are, in general, more than decent. The classrooms are mainly nice; Chambers has been renovated, and the music building is quite nice. | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Collaboration/Competitive: C | | | |
