 | Quite Bright | Here's the legitimate breakdown of HPU. The campus is absolutely beautiful and it's really not that hard to do well, just go to class and put in minimal effort. The women around campus are beautiful and the fact that people disagree on this site is crazy to me. The party scene is nothing too crazy but you can still have fun if you want to. Pregaming and going to some bars wednesday and thursday and frat parties on the weekends. A major problem I have with it are the kids. I have a lot of good friends that im really glad I know. I also surround myself with positive people because thats how to have fun, but there are plenty of people who are content smoking in their room all day complaining how theres nothing to do and how everything sucks. That's how the school get's a bad name, I hear kids complaiing so I say things like "ok well lets go meet up with girls at the pool" only to get a response like "eh fuck that" makes no sense. In all honesty I am a crazy partier and even though the parties are nothing crazy, I still have a good time. One major problem with the parties is there only frat parties, so when the school doesn't let them have parties (some weekends they dont) the party scene sucks. The frats try and take over the school but I don't let it bother me, I was even dancing with a girl and she asked me what frat I was in, i told her none and she just laughed and walked away from me. The rushing is very "fake" its like a week of dry get togethers in the frat house to decide if you get a bid, so it's not even like a real fraternaty. One thing I haven't even touched on is the strictness of security. Since it's a private school you sign all your rights away from day one. I was caught smoking marijuana and not only did they call the cops on me to get a state ticket, I had to pay $700 in fines, random drug testing for the year at my expense (fail=kicked out), counciling sessions twice a week, and probhation which means if your are even caught drinking or violating the rules, you will be kicked out. That to me seemed a bit strict but there was nothing I could do. All in all, I do like it here. There are things I woudld change but thats true for every school. The people who are giving terrible reviews about this school obviously don't know how to sieze a great opportunity and would rather sit around bitching. Good luck wherever you go. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Surrounding City: F | | | |

| | Average | Warning: The Truth About High Point I am a freshman from out of state and i am transferring asap. I decided to go to hpu because i didn't get into the university that i wanted to go to, and when i visited hpu, i was amazed by the beautiful campus. It was like nothing i had ever seen before in a college campus. The dorms and the buildings are gorgeous, but don't let the looks of the school be your deciding factor. I was so excited to start school, but after a few weeks of being here i realized that it was not at all what i thought it would be. Although i did make lots of great friends, a majority of the students here are stuck up rich kids. The school is not at all diverse like they claim to be. They always talk about all the international students at hpu, but neither myself nor anyone who i know has ever met one or heard of one. Literally everyone here is from new jersey and maryland its even rare to find people with southern accents and its in north carolina.... Coming into college one thing that i was looking foreword to was partying, but that too did not meet my expectations. This is how it is every weekend: I pre-game in a dorm with my friends, and than we "go out". There is literally no where to go other than the frat houses which is fun but not what you expect its nothing like the big university frat parties. And there is no alcohol at the frats so you have to either pre-game or b.y.o.b. The campus security is pretty easy going when it comes to booz, as long as its not in an alcohol can, bottle, or open cup your fine. Every weekend we all go around with out water bottles filled with alcohol and no one ever says anything. Anyway after a while doing the exact same thing every weekend, it gets pretty boring. I couldn't imagine doing this for four years....boring!!! There is also no where to go off campus, and no off campus parties. There are some clubs and bars in greensboro, but i come from a big city with a huge club scene, and all the clubs in greensboro suck. If your from a big city and used to big party lifestyle, you will find that the party scene here gets old really fast. Another thing is the food. There is only like 5 places to eat on campus and most of the restaurants serve all the same things, so you pretty much eat the same things every day, unless you go to the cafeteria, but the caf food usually sucks and the cafeteria smells bad and when you eat there you leave smelling just like it. In a way high point reminds me of a cult, and the leader is the president of the university. Everyone here is completely obsessed with him like seriously the people here treat him like hes god or something. Its weird. Also high point reminds me of a really nice high school. Mostly because a majority of the students here act like they are still in high school. When going into college i could not wait to get away from all the high school drama, but instead i was walking right back into it. Were adults people lets act like it! Most of the students here are extremely immature and they go crying to mommy and daddy whenever there is a problem. Another thing high point reminds me of is a country club prison. Yes its gorgeous and everything is supper nice, but its like were trapped in here. There is no where to go because the city of high point is so bad, so everyone stays on campus most of the time because there is nothing els to do. Also the school is way to small. There is a little more than 4,000 students and you can literally walk around the entire campus in 5 minutes. If you are from a big city like me, don't come here. Moving from a big city to a tiny university in a tiny town is not a good idea. Don't be fooled by their flashy website and gorgeous campus high point is not what you think it is and all they really care about is your money. Everything here is way over the top and if i ever here the word "extraordinary" again i think i might barf. I feel like high point is trying to be like a "real university", but they are just trying too hard and failing miserably. I realized that the only thing i liked about high point was hanging out with my friends and getting drunk with them on the weekends because there is nothing els to do. I am transferring out of here and going to a big state university in a big city. I cant wait :) Take my advice and don't let yourself get sucked into this fake bs they call a university. | | Super Brilliant | I've heard of many people choosing to attend HPU because of superficial reasons like how beautiful the campus is and all the perks we get as students. These people think it will be an easy ride to a degree and they can just party all the time. Then they hit mid-terms or finals and realize they're failing. This is a university. Yes, it's really nice and it gets compared to Disney World frequently, but you still have to study and attend class. Depending on your major, academics here can be quite rigorous. Professors are definitely willing to help you out, but you have to put in the work yourself. Bottom line is this is an amazing university to attend, but it is about getting an education. Don't forget that, and you'll love it! | Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: C- | | | |
