I like this school a lot. It's a nice, small and friendly college. The students are very nice and the teachers will bend over backwards. This is a very tight knit college, and it is nice to see familiar faces everywhere you go. I think this is what college is supposed to be like. There are parties here, and there are also so many activities that the school offers that its ridiculous. The school offers trips all over the country for almost nothing..... literally like 50$ for everything included. I would recommend this school to anyone and I am extremely pleased.

I can't wait to transfer and I hope I will manage to do that. MU has a really nice campus, and the professors are great! They are kind and helpful, always there for you, the classes are small and they really care about their students. But I have a feeling this school is not academically strong for me. It is not too easy, but not as challenging as I thought it is going to be. I really want to go away...
You must have a car if you want to go somewhere, cause the campus is out of the city, which I don't really like, and I hate the fact the army is really close...
If you want to be in a friendly environment go for it, but I found the academic part not too challenging for me.. And I hate the fact we have to take many core subjects.. I had like 3 english classes, speech, 2 histories, 2 religions... I mean, come on...

Super Brilliant
I am currently a senior at Methodist "University." Additionally, I am a adult night student from instate local to the area and a business administration major. I have previously served in the military thus I know about the atmosphere in Fayetteville.
It's my opinion that the school is a poorly run abomination. Yes, it has it's positive aspects, but the cons are overwhelming. I'll begin by detailing my positive experiences with the school. First, I'd like to say that security on campus does a decent job. My entire time attending the school I have never heard of any violence on the campus. Also they seem to have a decent golf program that attracts alot of the kids to it. That's it!
The negative stuff about Methodist is grand. Teachers at the college lack teaching ability. I used to think it was me not studying enough, but that's not the case. Several instructors do not make efforts to teach the material. Most of the ones I've had want to rush through the class in order to get done in an hour. For example, the statistics teacher Shahpour Dowlatshahi should not be teaching that course. Everything from his english speaking ability to his demeanor sucks. The man admitted to needing/wanting a pyschiatrist during class once. His idea of instruction is to talk, talk, talk, and then write on the chalkboard. There's no questioning him because if you do he anticipates the question in order to rush through so he doesn't have to stay past a certain time. His tests are garbage extricated from test banks that don't even look like they come from the same textbook. Keep in mind this imbecile teaches at the local community college in town. And my personal experiences with him in class were awful---he thought I was some sort of nigger and I'm not even black. When this nonsense didn't benefit his ego he started assuming I was gay. Then the nut would make weird allusions about having socks stuffed in his pants or my pants or something to that effect. It was hard to tell what he meant or even want to learn from this screwball. He is not the only individual with similar issues. There are a good amount of "instructors" (non-phds) teaching at night who are just plain dysfunctional human beings.
Do not plan on learning much beyond what you can teach yourself if you take accounting in the evening. The evening accounting instructor "DAIL" cannot teach worth a damn either. She treats her students like semi retarded children. It's as if though she teaches the way she parents her kid. The woman was constantly late to class, the only benefit to that was if you were a tardy individual yourself she couldn't say anything about it. She had a hard time putting into words her material. In addition to her weak teaching ability she had personality problems. This freak liked to emulate me. She would mimic my stance and appearance at times. Worst of all, she used to insist that I wasn't participating (although I had classmates to back me up that I was) and she claimed I slept in her class. And she was also hung up on some past incident where someone told her she'd never make it as a CPA because she was a woman. Overall, she sucked. I believe she only holds the accounting instructor position because she has a CPA license. Next, Mccandles, this clown is one of the science departments worst. He taught Biological science (he's a professor teaching day and night) and it was bad. The course seemed like an adaptation from a 16 week day course to an 8 week evening course. Unfortunately, the transition failed. He would test us on material not even covered in class. He couldn't even give answers to simple questions asked of him. And character wise, he was homophobic to the extreme. This really degraded his ability to instruct because that's all that was on his mind. He would make self deprecating comments about how day students would call him a godless homosexual. That was very unpleasant. Another douche with issues that shouldn't be teaching is Broadhurst. This man is a history professor. I endured his crap through a series of Saturday-only 4 hour blocks of instruction. The man reduced my grade to the minimum he could (C-)without rousing suspicion. What I mean is I would meet his standards requested for his essay exams, give the right answers and even finish first. I never attempted to rush the course nor did I simply put crap on my essays to fill up paper space. However, he always found too many problems with my papers. He seemed to scrutinize me moreso than the other students simply because I was the smartest student in class. He also gave himself to much leeway in the way he graded which meant if your answers weren't to his liking you got crappy grades. His personal character was poor as well. He seemed to be an alcoholic. He constantly would drink 3 to 4 sixteen ounce bottles of soda/water in a 2 hour time frame. Also he would do the "pee pee dance" in class during lectures but it may have been an std since that was a common thing when he wasn't binge drinking fluids, and he liked to flirt with a particular day student during class breaks. Overall, he shouldn't be in that position. Another individual who teaches at night and shouldn't be teaching Management science is Cox. This particular instructor started teaching recently, but she lacks knowledge of the subject. She read alot directly from the textbook and couldn't clearly explain portions of her material. Additionally, she'd focus too much on statistics and not enough on other areas to include the use of software bundled with the textbook. On occasion I observed day students (who were sharing the computer lab and not class members) handle the same software with ease. This is to say that they got better instruction from their day professors. Characterwise, Cox seemed to be a feminist. There's nothing wrong with that, but when she graded my tests she would fault me on questions that I was right, and she would mark problems right to a female who sat next to me. Mind you, I knew her answers were wrong because she showed them to me! And finally there is the Boyle. This little jerkoff instructs the finance courses. He's very knowledgeable in the subject, but his way of dispensing information is by far the worst of all the ones I've experienced only because he has no respect for his students. The guy suffers from Narcissistic personality disorder hence he has to insult his students by indirectly calling them stupid. He is very much like a child in that he wants to one-up the smart students and is constantly referring to his adult students as children. In one of his previous courses I took, he spent a majority of class bragging about himself. This wasn't just anecdotal commentary for the purposes of learning--it was just him talking big using the classroom as his personal pulpit. This instructor also came off as a closet transvestite because in his stories he would constantly talk about his wife's feminine attire and he ridiculed a female student about her shoes. In general the man ought to be whipped. He doesn't understand respect and lacks empathy for others.
Besides having poor night instructors the school has a weak administration. They operate like its still 1960. Up until recently they used to force students to register through some stupid process where they had to visit the student center to pick up schedules. After I made comments about eliminating that process they seemed to take heed. This could have been coincidence, but I believe I had some influence which some administrator decided to act upon to gain personal credit.
Methodist's registrar's office finally entered the information age after they implemented an Access database. Before that they (quite possibly new inexperienced staff) couldn't even tell you who was instructing what unless you visited the evening college office. Generally speaking the whole school suffers from miscommunication. There is also a problem with cliqueishness which extends to administrative staff as well. For example Admissions is in its own little world because their offices are seperate from the main administration offices. The majority of the Admissions counselors are also day brats that graduated from Methodist and went to work for the school. The financial aid office doesn't communicate well with the VA office which ironically is in the same building! I have also had issues with the poor quality of service provided from the staff. One female, Lennard, overstepped her boundaries, became disrespectful and then attempted to accuse me of harassment. This was eventually resolved and nothing happened to me but it seems their supervisor was informed and they had to change their ways. It is my opinion this crappy service is a result of the laxity in the way they allow students to address them. It gives staff members the false belief that it's ok to be on a first name basis with everyone. Yes, they maybe trying to be friendly, but certain staff members overstep their boundaries. Additionally, they suffer from apathy in some offices such as the VA office where the only VA rep would probably prefer to be outside smoking then keeping track of veterans records. I only say this because I have had to correct them about my records several times. And let's not forget the school president. Mr. Hendricks is a feeble leader. He has been in charge for the past 25+ years and allowed certain parts of the school to decay. Within the last year or so the school got in trouble for its poor grading of the cafeteria and a few people were fired/replaced. Then they got in trouble again for not notifying the local health inspector of a small snack setup in the lower level of the Trustee building. Apparently, after they were forced to shutdown they spent a crapload of money to repaint and retile the entire stairwell where they were operating the snack store. In addition to allowing that, Mr. Hendricks comes off as apathetic. When you meet the man he's always nervous or on his cell phone conducting personal business. He has had the night students forcefully attend imprompt meetings with him. It's mechanical and ridiculous because the Night school deans are always there to kiss ass.
The student population is pretty lopsided. Like other people have posted on this website, there is a disproportionate amount of males attending. However, this shouldn't be a surprise because Fayetteville is about 70% male as well. The majority of students are anti social. Most of them are not approachable and tend to react negatively unless you meet certain requirements. From my observations it seems you have to be heavy set and white with fair features or you are frowned upon and shunned by day students. This isn't a big deal with night students but you still see it. Keep in mind that the school is about 60 percent white and 40 percent black and other. My demographics are probably off but anyone reading this can research it themselves since the school has a profile on display on its website. For you single guys it will be difficult meeting females for those reasons. Also you'll be competeing with the military males.
There is alot of animosity with some students for no apparent reason. In my case I have been harrassed by other students at times. I agree with other posters about the divisiveness among groups which would explain the nastiness of some students. Also it doesn't help that at least one female was raped off campus and some people think its attributed to the local serial rapist.
This is essentially everything I can think of at the moment relating to my experiences at MU. Please consider that not all my experiences may apply to you the readers and that some of you may fit the profile of one the typical individuals at methodist thus you may never endure any of the crap I have had to due to sheer luck.
