For the price you pay the school shouldQuite BrightPsychology
For the price you pay the school should be ashamed. Mostly having to do with the quality of the dorms. They constantly have the heat on even when its not cold. So you are liable to get a heat stroke from now and then. The bathroom stay nasty and the cafeteria food I'd awful. I got one question how do you mess up fries . overall you will become very depressed here unless you stay off campus. But either way this college is not worth the money. And with that being said I wouldn't be surprised, if money was being pocketed illegally. This schools need to be under new management cause they are destroying their image. Also what school has visitation once a year.

"Shaw is what you make it" if youBrightPolitical Science
"Shaw is what you make it" if you plan to go to this school be prepared to hear this about a dozen times. The education you receive is acceptable, as long as your not easily distracted this school accepts anybody period and makes it a hard case to advocate for or brag about. There is almost absolutely no Co-Ed if you plan to take your Mother/Father to your room be prepared to fight tooth and nail and if its before 12 in the afternoon women are not allowed to even stand in the lobby of the mens dorm. There is a bucket load of things that are "Contraband" inside the dormatory that students cannot have and per say you get caught with one of the many listed items of "contraband" the head of housing gets to take it and fine you for owning it. The bathrooms are disgusting and janitors do not clean them on weekends (really the just push the dirt around on the weekdays but anyhow) R/A's are expected to act like paid faculty members and they only get room taken of of tuition whereas surrounding schools R/As have room and board taken off. If you expect to feel safe at this school it really has a unwritten "fiend for yourself" rule when there is a fight usually one large one per semester our aged security team usually one guy takes there sweet time getting there and just pushes it off campus. (Ironically there are emergency posts placed around campus) Its frustrating going here because the school has such a excellent and rich history but somewhere along the lines it turned to shit (to be brutally honest) most of the people that go here that are serious about there schooling only go here to get there GPA up and are hell bent on leaving asap and there's a lot of people that go here really belong in prison or who are not ready for college experience. I wish there was more positives than negatives but you either have to have the means to live off this "campus" or have a deep rooted love for the school to thoroughly boost about this place the school is known to rip people off on there refund checks or stack loans all to one semester to where you own a enormous amount of out of pocket money but on the bright side this is the oldest HBCU in the south!! Visit the campus before you attend.Quite BrightCommunications
Visit the campus before you attend. Shaw has almost no facilities. The gym is small, there's no football field, and the workout room is only for athletes. There's a lot of people at Shaw who aren't there for the right reasons, therefore it's very easy to get distracted. The school isn't dangerous at all. Like any other school it has it's occasional fights, but there's no general violence.

For fun there's often events and functions on campus. Most of the time hardly anybody goes because they're uninterested. The boys play basketball a lot, girls watch. Shaw hardly ever has any parties on campus. But the club scene is popular. Every Thursday different clubs have parties that are promoted on campus and they send a shuttle bus to take you to an from. Often times there are kids from a lot of different schools. Clubs are fun, but it gets repetitive. The dorms are horrible. Honestly. The relationships you make with people on your hall are cool. But as far as living condition, it sucks. The bathrooms are disgusting and old and it's not like the residents help, they are just as nasty. The rooms are small and if you don't keep your room clean they will fine you. Cleaning staff doesn't come on weekends, and it gets really nasty. As far as visitation goes.. They pick and choose when they want to give it to you. My whole first semester we never had visitation and it sucked. Second semester we got it like 5 times, and its only on Fri & Sat from 7-11. Overall the dorms definitely need to be renovated because they look very old and tired.
