This place is completely miserable. UNC thinks its awesome and so do most of the students?in regards to the university and themselves. That is, it's pure arrogance. Super Liberal and full of people who think they are open minded, but so far left they are pretty much a different version of the TEA party. Chapel Hill itself also sucks. People have compared it to Athens, GA which is completely unacceptable. I was told by my college counselors that UNC was the same thing as Athens, just a better school. FALSE. I've visited UGA and people there are happy, the campus is honestly nicer in my opinion, and Athens is a much better town than Chapel Hill. The school thinks it's some Southern gem, when in reality it's not. UNC wishes it had the same southern feel as SEC schools but tries to act like like harvard. For the record, North Carolina is not southern and the excessive ways people try to prove they are southern is pathetic. Accept your roots. This school will never be southern and neither will the state.

The brochures and propaganda of the school are so far away from the truth, they may as well have given you a brochure showing pictures of Hawaiian beaches and calling it UNC. I was told by few that undergrad doesn't really need the attention some give it. UNC is not a good place to be an undergrad as you will be miserable, hence why most people spend their weekends getting wasted to the point they forget they are in Chapel Hill. That's probably the only way you can survive here without losing your mind, if you haven't already while attending. UNC students assume they are great because of their acceptance to this once-amazing university. The main office tries to pretend they are the same school they were eons ago, and it really bothers me this false prestige is still accepted by the general public and ignoramuses who publish top university rankings. What goes around comes around, UNC. One day the truth will be exposed and you will be placed lower than alabama for academics and quality of life will be reviewed as a joke. I came here expecting some true university life and experience similar to those who went to college before me. I guess i am an idiot for not considering that most people who have really enjoyed their college experiences went somewhere else. I cannot wait to transfer. UNC is not what brochures, school tours, US news rankings, college counselors, or anyone tells you. Furthermore, as a disclaimer, I have had a very good social life here with many friends but nothing is worth the misery that comes with attending this university. Misery loves company, and it's area code is 27599

Super Brilliant
I'm an American Indian Studies major, and I have found a ton of opportunities. The faculty and department are amazing. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Not so bright
If you want to keep your love for English, do NOT go to UNC Chapel Hill. This is the worst, most incompetent English Department I've ever seen. It's terrible. Avoid at all costs.
