 | Bright | Western is a nice campus. The newer dorms are very nice. Everyone seems friendly but I transfered, and it was hard to make friends. A great way to meet people is to join clubs, sports, etc. A lot of people already know each other. A percentage of the students are still in that high school mindset. You'll find people talking crap, acting like 16 year olds etc. But im sure that is at every school. I love the professors in my department. They are very helpful. The learning and writing center, and the math lab is what I like best. Getting your papers reviewed is an easy way to get a 100! The gym is also nice and very well equipped. However, eating at the dining hall is a hit or miss. Especially around the holidays. Don't come here if you don't have a car to get around in if you don't want to be stuck on campus. All the good food places are in Sylva. If Western was closer to my home, I would stay here. I am transferring out because I don't like the student body and its far from home. People drive crazy here! The police never seem to be around when they should be. A few people have almost been hit (including myself) from inattentive drivers. A lot of people smoke pot and can be rude. Jobs can be scarce. Some of the guys here are creepy and determined to get some panties. Everyone knows everyone, and if you don't belong to a group, or hang out with anyone, people will start to think you are stuck up (just like high school). Overall Western is a nice school. It just isn't right for me. | Campus Aesthetics: A+, Social Life: F | | | |

| | Quite Bright | I decided to go to WCU on a whim in my senior year of high school, when I could've been accepted to UNC or NC State with ease. I have to say that the experience I have had here is just phenomenal. I love the campus, the people, the teachers- everything is wonderful. The campus is absolutely beautiful. It's quite small, of course, but that makes it so accessible. Even the furthest parking lot is nowhere NEAR how far away as the parking in some colleges, and even though there is not enough parking lots, if you plan your trips well you will never be stuck walking very far. The mountains are gorgeous. I have never had a problem with people drinking or partying. The professors (especially those in the English department) are exceedingly friendly and helpful, and most of the residence halls are very well maintained. If you are big on clubbing or the city scene, I would recommend not coming here, as the surrounding towns are very small. But Asheville is only a 40 minute drive for more entertainment. If you are looking for a great education at a great price on a beautiful campus, then come to Western. | Education Quality: A+, Social Life: A- | | | |
