Well, Wake Forest is for a certain type of student and person. I came from California here, and the results seemed to be disastrous. Firstly, I must say that my academic experience was top notch and unforgettable. There are a lot of really smart students here. But, the social situation at times can drag smart students into it and ruin their academic experience. The school is fraternity dominated, masculinity rules supreme. If you're not Greek, then you're a nobody. And frankly, the fraternities at Wake Forest disgusted me. They are full of southern aristocrat kids who just sit around all day and talk about eating pizza, raping women, and drinking beer. It scared me a lot. The surrounding area isn't as bad as people say it is, but the university is a lot like a dark mysterious place although the grounds are beautiful in a way.

My experience at Wake Forest had its good and evil. Academics were great, I loved it academically. There were some really intelligent students as well, but due to the social environment, I don't believe they fulfilled their potential.Socially, Wake Forest was depraved; in my opinion. The Frat scene is huge and disturbing to say the least. All the fraternities at Wake Forest do is sit around, talk about eating pizza, raping women, and drinking beer. It was disgusting and almost everyone has to be a part of it in order to have a life. All the children are of Southern Aristocrats and I am from the west and the school was disturbing at times. If I had to choose a school again, I would go to UC Santa Barbara over Wake. Also, Wake students think Wake is competing with Duke, but thats never the case. Wake is a crappy wannabe of Duke.

Wake Forest was an excellent choice for me 18 years ago. The professors and classes were generally excellent. I don't doubt that they are still excellent. Unfortunately, the sticker price of the school has outpaced its reputation. It saddens me to say that at those prices, I'll send my children to Harvard (same price, better reputation) or UVA (better price, same reputation). I'm an economist, I will pay for a human capital investment (or reputation) but not consumption.
