I like Kearney and the UNK school. It is very easy to talk to any of the professors and the place is friendly. The food services could be better for the cost and the dorms could be better for the cost ... most people go to Lincoln or Omaha for the weekend so weekends are a little boring. Wish there would be more high profile speakers or events. Overall a good place to do your undergrad.

UNK was okay. There was a large international population that made the small school feel diverse. Teh professors were friendly.

The student body is mostly in-staters. The school is a "suitcase college" that cleared out every Friday by 1pm.

The town of Kearney was safe, but rather boring. The lack of public transportation made getting around difficult.

I was happy to receive a college education, but would probably not attend UNK if I could do it again.

Super Brilliant
I found it is very hard to find a job. Unless you already have a professional career, you can flip burgers or scrub floors. If you are a married student, housing is very expensive, except for University Heights Apts., but living there you have to be a full time student-not always that easy if married. UNK gives a fairly wide range of majors, but a larger school would have suited my needs better.

UNK is an average school. It is characterized by some really great professors and some really horrific ones. There is really no middle ground. The city of Kearney leans more towards anti-college than for it, even though the city's prosperity rides on the college. The main thing that is the downfall of the University is the staggering displays of incompetence among the poorer faculty members and the arrogance of the administration. UNK grades on the plus/minus system, which puts students at a major disadvantage when applying to graduate school.
However, UNK has a pretty good social life and it is easy to get involved. If a new student can find a group of friends early, it makes all the difference in the world.
